Anxious to make good in Hollywood as an actress, Ann doesn't give two whoops or comph. she would rather be given good roles than have abstract glamor title. Vice President John Nance Garner sets the democratic nominaation in 1940, and if he decides wage a "front porch" campaign, this wicker arm chair presented to him by his friends in senate will come in handy. -Football Coach Leonard "Stub" Allison of the University of California admits he has plenty of worries this year, much of them concerning Oregon and Oregon State. "The Oregon State Beavers are set for a great year," the grid mentor said yesterday, "and Tex Oliver will have his system completely installed, with a load of material and a year's experience in the league to make it work." Allison, never one to keep his fears to himself, then proceeded to pick University of Southern California as the next Pacific Coast Conference champion, clash- with Stanford State ing for second and Washington and Oregon taking the next two spots. His own Golden Bears would take their position with the remainder of the conference "in what order, nobody knows." Wood And Brick Homes Predominate On almost two-fifths of the new homes given as security for FHAinsured mortgages in 1938 wood was used as the material of exterior construction, and the great bulk of these were of clapboard. Brick homes were also numerous, three-tenths of the new-home total. These were mostly brick veneer.

Famous Woods Used For Doors Of Beauty A classical interior style of rare beauty combines light cream-colored Georgian woodwork and paneling, with paneled mahogany doors. Mahogany, of all cabinet woods, is said to be among the least susceptible to atmospheric changes and therefore makes doors that keep their appearance and shape through many years of use. A wide choice in mahogany doors is available, not only in the traditional panel doors but also in flush doors for the more modern type of rooms. Yanks Have Too Many Starting Pitchers NEW YORK, McCarthy has a quaint complaint. The manager of the New York Yankees says he has too many starting pitchers. Spurgeon Chandler now is ready, but has to be satisfied with batting practice duties. Neither he nor Jimmy DeShong has pitched a ball for the world champions this season. Neither is crying to be traded, however.

Circulation Of Air Helped Ventilating bricks, designed to meet general ventilating requirements for cellars, air spaces, and attics, help to prevent dry rot in houses by permitting the circulation of air. One popular type of "ventilating brick" is a hollow-metal ventilating device which extends through the wall. It is the size and shape of one or two standard bricks and is constructed with a louvered face with water drip at top and bottom and an integral water stop in the casting. Easy to install, the ventilators are "bricked in" by a mason, with the louvered face to the outer air and duct or flue in the room. The devices are used for ventilating kitchens, air spaces, closets, garbage receivers, boiler rooms, hung ceilings, transformer rooms, cellars, cellar rooms, cold rooms, attics, tunnels, utility rooms, and gas-range hoods.

When used in kitchens they are said to help prevent discoloration of walls and obviate the necessity for frequent painting. Ventilating bricks can be built into construction, brick walls, and concrete forms. like Snowdrift, and this is why: No smoke, no odor when you fry. for Snowdrift Snowdrift Cake Biscuit Digestible All -Vegetable Pastry Shortening -Quick -Frying Frying Springfield CHAMBER CHANGES DATE.
