A brief electrical storm followed by a torrential rain of most welcome type last nipht helped break the drought which took its first beating the niRht previous with the first rain in many days. The rain storm 24 hours ago av-waged .814 of an inch and the showers last evening brought down an average of .534 of an inch or a total of 1.348 inches for the two days period.

It was as "spotty" as was the case with the first storm. The wide variation is shown by the 10 a. m. readings of rain gauges of the Wyoming Valley Water Supply Co. as follows: Dreck Creek 1.03 inches.

Mt. rieasant .38 of an inch. Delano .56 of an inch. Barnes Run .57 of an inch. Buck Mountain .15 of an inch.

Averatre .534 of an inch. The downpour was so heavy in the torm which hit the city about 10:30 last night that garbage cans were washed down the streets and their contents spilled. The Legion Home sewer backed up into the cellar and similar conditions occurred elsewhere. There was a general overflow on streets as inlets proved too small to take the heavy wash and many autos were stalled due to electrical connections being soaked by the rain. Blinding bolts of lightning zipped across the sky.

The electrical and communication services were affected for brief intervals. However no great damage is reported and the storm was a boon to the farmers of the region. In Beaver Valley beyond Mt. Grove wells were dry. The hay and alfalfa crops in Sugarloaf Valley were ruined.

In Sandy Valley beyond Freeland farmers were already planting substitute crops for the plantings of early spring, ruined by drought conditions. The storm hammered down the temperature from 83 at 3 p. m. to 64 at midnight and it was 63 this morning, at 7 o'clock.
