8 Capital Journal, Satan, Oregon, Friday, SPt. 29, 1950 swjwiiswaisHg Woodburn Churches Prepare Parsonage For New Minister Slate Reception For New Pastor Polk Property Value Jump Held No Boon to Taxpayer Dsllas Polk county's property valuation Jumped nearly h.w million iollrs in the oast year, but this is expected to Silverton Churches Plan Active Week's Schedule Silverton Special church activities for the coming week are Including the Initiation into their regular work, two new pastori, Rev. Arthur L. Watroui irom Tacoma of Pilgrim Holiness con bring little relief to taxpayers, according to Ed C. Dunn, assessor, and Ormiston Tennis, chief deputy.

Increase in taxes is expected because of the number of bond issues voted by residents for var gregation, and Rev. Douglas Harrell of Ketchekan, Alaska, who with Mrs. Harrell attended his own congregation forenoon wor ious purposes around the coun ty. as well as levies approved. for other purposes.

Tax rates have not yet been computed. Total valuation of Polk county is figured at $16,291,910 as compared to $15,830,875 in 1949. The gain is shown despite loss of value from timber cut off forest lands and the transfer of 6,121 acres from the ad valorem tax roll and placed under reforest tion program during 1948-su. All types of personal property showed notable gains in value during the past year. Platted lands and structural improvements on both platted and un platted lands also increased.

On the other hand, non-tillable lands and timber lands showed sizeable decreases in value. Tillable lands are valued at $4,531:090 as compared with $4,530,920 last year. An increase of 265 acres is noted. Noi-tillable lands dropped from $1,449,540 to $1,410,360, al though acreage increased from 176,453 to 183,324. Timberlands decreased with the year's logging from 53,645 acres to 49,133 acres.

Value dropped according ly, from $462,080 to $418,240. Platted lands are valued at $1,155,885, as against $1,151, 350 for 1949-50. Structural im provements on platted lands are listed at $2,766,690 as compared with $2,511,300 last year. 1m provements on unplatted lands is figured at $1,524,850 as compared with $1,437,380 in 1949- 50. Total real property is 367,961 acres with valuation at 115.

Personal property showed gains in each class as follows (figures of 1949-50 are in paren theses): Movable machinery and equipment ($715,700) merchandise and stock in traded ($836,130) farming im plements. machinery and equip ment ($688,230) furniture and equipment in commercial use ($115,830) livestock and miscellaneous ($298,950) $352,770. Utilities' assessment is 735. In 1949-50 it was 925. Property tax offset allocated county schools from revenues of the personal income and corporate excise taxes will result in a reduction of 33.28 mills to prop erty taxpayers, Dunn states.

Off set funds this year amount to $542,313,26 as compared to $517,982.20 last year. Mission Festival Slated Sunday Bethany Evangelical and Reformed church, Marion and Capitol, will hold its annual mission festival Sunday. The program will consist of regular Sunday school services at 10 a.m., preaching at 11 o'clock by Ray Johnson, minister to the rural areas; a dinner at noon and a display of curios and pictures at 2 o'clock by Zeral Brown, missionary to the Dominican St. Lake's Cataeiie V.
