Westmoreland and the National Association of Counties joined forces in this program. Each card offers an average 20 percent savings off the retail price of commonly prescribed drugs. There is no cost and all Westmoreland residents may use the card when a prescription is not covered by insurance.

Cards are available at the Westmoreland County Courthouse, 2 N. Main First Floor, Suite 108-A, Greensburg, and 38 other sites. By Norm Vargo Turmoil in the business operations of North Irwin in the wake of the abrupt resignations of borough secretary Carolyn Neel and elected tax collector Linda Zentner, appears to be easing.

Mrs. Neel was secretary for 30 years before resigning Feb. 11, after council voted, 4-3, to reduce her hours and compensation. action came after it became apparent she had been doing certifications for local funeral directors during working hours. Edwin Anthony, Mel Ostrom, Bernie Reynolds and Kim Macalus favored the motion to accept her resignation effective last Saturday.

Ken Galley, John McIntyre and Gordon Stoves dissented. Mr. Anthony disclosed that Mrs. Neel decided to go on vacation, which left no one to conduct borough business. Council members have attempted to do so.

Mr. Anthony said council hopes to fill the secretary post at its meeting at 7 p.m. Monday in the municipal building. The board was unable to hire a replacement during a special meeting Feb. 21.

During that meeting, Mrs. Zentner notified council by letter that she was resigning. Council voted, 7-0, to accept the resignation. Council feared the mandatory mailing of nearly 400 property tax notices for 2008 which were required to be postmarked by last Saturday, could not be mailed on time due to Mrs. resignation.

Council, however, was unaware that Mrs. Zentner had appointed someone to send those notices concern the tax notices be postmarked Mar ch 1. If that the discount period for taxpayers could Mr. Anthony said. Checks should be made payable to borough of North instead of in care of Mrs.

Zentner, Mr. Anthony noted. Council may appoint a tax collector Monday night to fill the remaining two year of Mrs. term. Application deadline was yesterday.
