Ondis was among the first to test and use the now-standard Fortran language developed by IBM for scientific computing. For many years he was the lead developer at Bettis for Monte Carlo computer programs used in the design and analysis of naval nuclear reactors, including the Nautilus (the first nuclear submarine) and the first commercial nuclear power plant at Shippingport, Pa. He served on the national council of ACM, the Association for Computing Machinery, the first educational and scientific computing society. Mr. Ondis was a past Master and trustee of the Pleasant Hills-Guthrie Masonic Lodge, past president of the Pleasant Hills Lions Club, elected to the Pleasant Hills Borough Council for 21 years, and a member of Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church.

He was an avid reader and enjoyed music, theater, traveling, and playing golf and bridge. Beloved husband for 34 years of the late Helen (Berwind) Ondis. Loving father of Catherine (Donald) Solberg (Chevy Chase, MD) and Victoria (Stewart) Pemberton (London, England). 6, 2008, after an extended illness. Born November 8, 1927, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late Marie (Kurth) Shoaf and the beloved husband of Evelyn (Platko) Shoaf for 53 years. Mr. Shoaf worked in the automotive parts industry and was employed by Motive Parts Co. of PA in McKeesport and East Liberty.

He worked with his son, Charles A. Shoaf at Auto Parts, Inc. in West Mifflin and Clairton. Mr. Shoaf served in the Pacific Theatre on the island of Iwo Jima during WWII and was present for the raising of the flag on its first anniversary.

King of Mt. Lebanon. She was most recently a resident of Washington, PA. Mrs. Worley is a 1942 graduate of Taylor Alderdice and received her Bachelor of Science in microbiology from the University of Pittsburgh in 1946.

She received a Degree in Music Education from Duquesne University in 1991. Virginia was a lifelong musician and lover of music and was passionate about bringing the joy of music into lives, especially children from her beloved North Side. She served God as the organist choir director at a number of Pittsburgh area churches starting in the 1940's; most recently at Trinity Lutheran Church on the North Side and the music teacher for "St. After School" program. Virginia was a founder and served on the board of directors for the Greater Pittsburgh Center and Shelter.

She also helped found the Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and the National Museum of Art. In the 1980's Virginia retired from the Allegheny County Health Department where she worked for 18 years and was the first woman health inspector for the county. Virginia is survived by four children, Mark Worley of Houston, Pennsylvania, Seth Worley, MD of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Paul Worley, MD of Baltimore, Maryland and Marianne Worley of Silver Spring, Maryland. She leaves 11 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. She was formerly married for 18 years to the late Carl M.

She ministered through internal service to her community, as a housekeeper in several convents and then in the kitchens of Marycrest Prep and Providence Heights. She embraced her life of service and was extremely conscientious in the day-to-day living out of her ministry. She was an accomplished baker and her sweet treats added to many bake sales over the years. She enjoyed baking very much and was pleased to know that the sisters enjoyed her cookies, cupcakes and candies. In later years, she worked in housekeeping at Providence Heights.

Sister Barbara Jean enjoyed needlepoint, embroidering, crocheting. Preceded in death by her parents Irvin and Bertha Lock Yost she is survived by her twin sister, Kathleen Spidell (Pete), her sister Beverly (George) Miller and brother Gene (Jane) all of Massillon, nieces and nephews and 1,000 Sisters of Divine Providence and Associates throughout the world. Friends received Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from Noon until 3 p.m.
