Killed fellow Black Panther in 1969 case By The Associated Press Warren Kimbro, a former Black Panther whose murder of another party member led to a sensational trial involving the militant founder, has died. He was 74. Mr. Kimbro died Tuesday night at a New Haven hospital. In May 1969, Mr.

Kimbro shot Alex Rackley, whom the Panthers suspected of being a police informant. Mr. Kimbro pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and served over four years in prison. He later obtained a Harvard degree and became a counselor to other former inmates. think he was proof people could turn their lives said Paul Bass, a journalist who wrote a book on the trial.

While Mr. Kimbro admitted being the first to shoot Mr. Rackley, Black Panther national leader Bobby Seale and others also were charged with either ordering or taking part in Mr. kid- nap, torture and killing. The charges sparked a massive protest in New Haven on May Day 1970.

Mr. Kimbro testified for the prosecution at Mr. trial in 1970-71. But the case resulted in a hung jury and the charges were dismissed. think Warren Kimbro was an outstanding brother, a person who in the history of that trial got caught up in a bad Mr.

Seale told The Associated Press yesterday. was a socially con- scious person. I liked A one-time high school dropout, Mr. Kimbro went on to obtain a degree in education from Harvard University in 1975. He led Project More, which worked to reduce recidivism by helping former inmates with drug treatment and job training.

She was born August 27, 1962, in Washington, a daughter of the late Albert C. "Cue Ball" and Gloria Asturino Lodovici.

Tammy was a 1980 graduate of Torrance High School in Torrance, California. In 1985, she graduated from CCAC South as a registered nurse. After she completed school, she was employed at the South Hills Health System, now the Jefferson Regional Medical Center, as a registered nurse on the orthopedic floor. In 1987, she moved to their operating room as a circulating nurse. There, she found a passion for her profession and the affection of her co-workers.

After training in 1998 at Shadyside Hospital until the she continued her operating room position specializing in open heart surgery. She was a member of St. Thomas A Becket Catholic Church in Jefferson Hills. She is survived by her loving daughter Talia DiClaudio, who now resides with her father Tim DiClaudio and her step mother Bobbi DiClaudio; sister Christine Zewe and husband Carl of Monongahela, two brothers Albert Lodovici and wife Maureen of Juneau, Alaska, Joseph Lodovici and wife Jeannette with whom she made her home, two nephews Adam Zewe and Dominic Lodovici. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her niece Rena Burge Zewe.

Friends will be received on Friday from 3-9 PM in the FRYE FUNERAL HOME, 427 W. Main Street, Monongahela. A mass of Christian burial will be held in Transfiguration Church on Saturday at 9:00 AM with the Rev. Walter Rydzon as celebrant. Committal services and interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery.

He was born December 3, 1920 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Harry Lee, Sr. and Amanda Hill Cornelius. He grew up in La Vale, Maryland and was a 1939 graduate of Allegany High School in Cumberland, Maryland. He then attended the University of Pittsburgh, graduating in 1943. He was the student manager of the varsity football team in 1941 and 1942.

He was also a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity while attending the University. After graduation, he served in the United States Army during World War II. While stationed in Camp Davis, NC, he visited the Myrtle Beach area and was enchanted with its' beauty. He then served in the Southwest Pacific, being stationed in New Guinea and the Philippines. He attained the rank of Captain.

Several years after leaving the service, he settled in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area. For 28 years he worked for the United Way of Allegany County, Pa, serving in the position of Director of Central Services. Upon retiring in 1985, he relocated to Surfside Beach, SC. Surviving are: his loving wife of 64 years, Natalie Zapolsky Cornelius, son, Edgar Franklin Cornelius, both of Surfside Beach, SC; son, Victor Cornelius of Germantown, NY; his daughter, Ann Cornelius Simcic and husband Robert, of Pittsburgh, Pa; a brother, Harry Lee Cornelius, Jr. of Cumberland, Maryland; a sister-in-law, Jean Ambrose of Hilton Head, SC; numerous nieces and nephews; and Daisy, his faithful Carolina Dog.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Margaret Meagher and Phyllis Wangenheim and by his daughter-in-law, Marilyn Geist Cornelius. A funeral mass, with Military Honors, will be held 9:30 AM Saturday, February 7, 2009 at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Garden City, officiated by Father Ray Carlo.
