Willie was the last surviving child of 12 children of the late George and Mary (Gaydos) Paliscak. Three of the children died at childbirth and Pete died as a youngster. Willie, along with Pete, was one of the five of those children who was born deaf. After his mother died, he and his deaf siblings, Helen, Annie and Michael were cared for by their brothers Steve and Al, and their sister, Mary Paliscak, and were referred to as "The Kids." His other brother, George, married and raised his own family. Willie was the best known of as he roamed the hills and valleys of the East Pittsburgh area and always had a big, broad smile and a strong pat on the back for any familiar face.

After his last sibling, Mary, died in 2002, he moved to Long Island under the care of his brother George's daughter, Theresa Churik, and her family. Willie was also the uncle of George and Bill Paliscak and the late Mary Paliscak. Friends welcome Friday from 2:30 to 7:00 p.m. at PATRICK T. Sheaffer, a life long resident of Wilkinsburg and Penn Hills, sadly announce her peaceful passing on Sunday, March 6, 2011, three weeks shy of her 90th birthday. Born December 27, 1915, he celebrated his 95th birthday with family shortly after Christmas 2010. Tom was born in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of Thomas H.

Tyson, Jr. and Adela Rambo Tyson. He grew up in Aspinwall, PA and graduated from Aspinwall High School. He left college to enlist in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII.

Tom served as a pilot in the India China Division of the Air Transport Command. His assignment was flying C-47s fitted with rubber bladders full of gasoline from India over the Himalayas and into China, a mission known as "flying the hump." He survived a crash landing in a plane full of gasoline and one of his last missions was transporting the Army Signal Corps into Shanghai a few days after the Japanese surrender. Among other medals, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. After the war, he went to work for Beckwith Machinery Company in Pittsburgh, PA, where he worked his entire career and was the Treasurer when he retired in 1985. Tom lived his adult life in Glenshaw, PA and was a member of Glenshaw Presbyterian Church.

In 1990, he moved to Richmond, VA to live near his daughter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Gilkey Tyson; and his sister, Elda Tyson Nagie. Tom is survived by his daughter, Cora Tyson Huitt; and Cora's husband, Jimmie Lee Huitt, Jr. He is also survived by granddaughter, Alexandra Tyson Huitt; granddaughter, Abigail Huitt Mackenzie and her husband, James Fraser Mackenzie; a grandson, Adam Tyson Huitt and his wife, Sarah Kinnier Huitt; and two great-grandchildren, Caroline Addison Huitt and James Hamilton Huitt. A man of great energy who was never idle, he was a capable carpenter, woodworking craftsman and an outstanding hunter and fisherman.

Tom taught all of his family many skills and values and we will miss him dearly. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery.
