Prosecution wants assets kept frozen FROM PAGE -1 CITY Woman in city bribe scheme seeks probation The woman whose cooperation made possible the federal prosecution of a bribery case involving a city of Pittsburgh contract asked for probation Tuesday in advance of her sentencing next week. Christine Kebr, 57, of Castle Shannon, gave federal agents 12 hours of interviews that, according to her attorney, to the guilty plea of Arthur Bedway, 64, of Robinson, has been sentenced to three years of probation and a $30,000 fine. He ran Esplen-based Alpha Outfitters. After obtaining Ms. inside help in securing a contract to install radios and computers in city police cars, he paid her $6,000.

U.S. District Judge Cathy Bissoon will decide on the sentence. Bedway has admitted to paying $9,000 to another person, whom prosecutors have not named. attorney has said it was former city police Chief Nate Harper, but Mr. attorneys have denied that.

Mr. Harper is set to be sentenced Feb. 25 on unrelated charges of conspiracy to commit theft from a federally funded program and failure to file tax returns. Two guilty of murder in 2011 home invasion Two men were found guilty of murder Tuesday in the 2011 shooting death of a Hazelwood man. Jarod Cager, 22, and Terrel Noaks, 19, were accused of killing Antwan Leake, 19, on Aug.

Both men were found not guilty of conspiracy. They will be sentenced by Common Pleas Judge Jill E. Rangos on May 2. Pittsburgh officer charged with DUI, careless driving A Pittsburgh police officer was arrested around 3:20 a.m. Monday and charged with driving under the influence and careless driving, court records show.

Michael Lafferty, 29, was assigned Tuesday to support services, pending action by the Office of Municipal Investigations, acting police Chief Regina McDonald said in a statement. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 7. When 3-day-old Bryce Coleman disappeared in August 2012 from Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC, Officer Lafferty, who has been a city officer since Sept. 2009, helped identify and locate suspect, Breona Moore. SOUTH Two in Homestead held for heroin possession A brother and sister were charged Tuesday with drug offenses in connection with the Jan.

26 discovery of roughly 1,500 stamp bags of fentanyl- laced heroin labeled in their Homestead residence. Alvin Smith III, 23, and Alicia Smith, 27, were arraigned before District Judge Thomas R. Torkowsky on a variety of charges, including criminal conspiracy and drug possession with intent to deliver. Police executing a search warrant on the house in the 200 block of East 20th Avenue confiscated the drugs from a black duffle bag on a pool table and drug paraphernalia. Also seized were black stamp bags with white diamonds.

Investigators are still searching for the supply of the deadly fentanyl-laced heroin. Just in the past week, Butler County, which previously had one such overdose death, notched as many as five victims, Coroner William Young III said. ALLEGHENY COUNTY Tax abatement program extended 2 more years After much debate, members of Allegheny County Council voted Tuesday night to continue a two-year county tax abatement program for new home construction. The abatement acts as an incentive for people to build new homes in Allegheny County, versus in surrounding counties, builders Dion McMullen of Londonbury Homes and Jeff Martin of Richland Holdings told council members.

Their argument appealed to many council members. Council voted 8 to 7 to keep the full two-year abatement program for new home construction. Also Tuesday, the council approved the $4.9 million sale of the county Health Department headquarters in Oakland to developer Gary Wilson. Rocco, the Pittsburgh police dog killed last week, also was recognized at the meeting. Cont.
