After years as a truck mechanic for Trailmobile, he went to work for Miller Electric until retirement. He enjoyed always learning new things, spending time with his family, and retirement with his wife, Evelyn. Fred will be greatly missed by all. Friends will be received Sunday from 12 to 9 p.m.

Send condolences EDWARDS HOWARD DILWORTH Howard Dilworth Edwards was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on February 5, 1921. He was the son of George Dixon Edwards, past President of Commonwealth National Bank (now PNC Bank) and Pauline Dilworth Edwards. He was predeceased by his brother, George Dilworth Edwards of Pasadena, CA and two siblings, who were lifelong residents of Pittsburgh, PA, Richard Dilworth Edwards and Mary Dilworth Edwards Foster.

Howard graduated from the Choate School in Wallingford, CT and was a fifth-generation graduate of Princeton University (class of 1943). His seventh great-grandfather, Rev. Jonathan Edwards, was second President. With the advent of World War II, Howard pursued accelerated graduation from Princeton in order to enter naval midshipman training in Florida. He served aboard a Destroyer Escort, the USS Baker, for four years and was instrumental (as the Officer) in sinking a German submarine (U-boat 233) off the coast of Nova Scotia on July 5, 1944.

At the conclusion of the war, he entered Pitt Law School in Pittsburgh, PA and graduated in 1949. He joined the Mellon Bank, and served as Trust Officer from 1949-1957. Howard married Clementina "Tina" Rutledge on June 20, 1953 at Calvary Episcopal Church in Pittsburgh and moved to his hometown of Charleston, SC in 1957. Howard was a Trust Officer at the South Carolina National Bank (now Wells Fargo) for 27 years and head of the Trust Department for 15 years. He was President of the Rotary Club of Charleston from 1973-1974, during which time he had the foresight to start a community foundation to serve the Trident area.

Howard served as the first President of this organization, now known as the Coastal Community Foundation. The initial grant of $9000 has grown to over $180 million for community good. At First (Scots) Presbyterian Church, Howard was elected Deacon twice and served three times as an Elder. He was also President of the Church Street Foundation, Chairman of the Board of the Gibbes Museum of Art, and President of the Association of Porter-Gaud School. He was President of the South Carolina Bankers Association from 1968-1969 and 12th President of the Estate Planning Council of Charleston.

Howard is survived by his wife of 61 years, Clementina (Tina) Rutledge Edwards; three children, Clementina (Tina) Rutledge Edwards Mayland of Charleston, SC, Oliver Rutledge Edwards of Atlanta, GA, and Howard Dilworth Edwards, Jr. of Charleston, SC; and four grandchildren, Christopher Patrick Edwards and Dana Rutledge Underwood of Atlanta, GA, and Bryant Barrow Edwards and Benjamin Rutledge Edwards of Charleston, SC; and seven nieces and nephews, lifelong Pittsburgh residents, Polly Foster Mullins, Rev. Janet McCune Edwards Anti, Dr. Howard Foster, and James Marshall Edwards; also David Lockhart Edwards of Fort Collins, CO, John Herron Edwards of Hilton Head, SC, and Michael Metcalf Edwards of Attleboro, MA. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 10, 2014, at First (Scots) Presbyterian Church, Charleston, SC, at 11:00 a.m.

(HELBLING) SIFORD Age 76, of Hampton Township, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2014.

Born June 28, 1938, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Alfonsos L. and Catherine L. (Wolfslayer) Helbling. Carol was passionate for gardening. She is survived by her son, Mark (Tammy) Siford; stepson, Mark (Bev) C.

Feris; daughter-in-law, Susan Siford; grandchildren, Jimmy, Chad, Bryan, Collin, Elle and Andrew; step-grandchildren, Amanda, Matthew and Danielle; brother, Jack (Jane) Hebling; many nieces and nephews; and her dear friends, Karan Truluck, Bill and and Catherine L. (Wolfslayer) Helbling. Carol was passionate for gardening. She is survived by her son, Mark (Tammy) Siford; stepson, Mark (Bev) C. Feris; daughter-in-law, Susan Siford; grandchildren, Jimmy, Chad, Bryan, Collin, Elle and Andrew; step-grandchildren, Amanda, Matthew and Danielle; brother, Jack (Jane) Hebling; many nieces and nephews; and her dear friends, Karan Truluck, Bill and Kathleen Foreman.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Siford; second husband, William "Bill" Feris; sons, Craig Siford and Eric Siford; and sister, Nancy Conway.
