The Daily Nonpareil Candle blamed for blaze in Bluffs home Fire caused an estimated $8,000 damage to a Council Bluffs late Sunday, a Council Bluffs Fire Department official said this morning. No one was injured in the fire. The blaze was reported at 11:43 p.m. at the Perry Holmes residence at 3113 Ave. according to Capt.

Will Mott, acting assistant chief. The fire was believed to have started in a bedroom, Mott said. "They apparently had a candle that was left unattended and caught some clothes on fire," he said. The house is owned by Connie Plunkett of Council Bluffs, Mott said. Firefighters were on the scene for more than two hours, he said.

Visitation with the family will be Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hazel Dell Cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Post No.

2. Norma M. Butterbaugh Funeral for Norma May Butterbaugh, 74, of Englewood, will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at BeemBelford Funeral Home. Mrs.

Butterbaugh died July 21 at Cherry Park Nursing Home in Englewood. She was born July 7, 1926, in Hazel Dell Township to John and Ruth (Cook) Hutchison. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1944. She lived in Council Bluffs before moving to Englewood five years ago. She was a teacher for Council Bluffs Community Schools including Rue and Bloomer elementary schools, retiring in 1990.

She was a member of the Lutheran Church. Mrs. Butterbaugh was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, on July 5, 1987. Survivors include three sons, John Smith and wife, Cheryl, of Wisconsin, Robert Smith and wife, Charlene, of Englewood, and Daniel Smith and wife, Renee, of San Antonio; a stepdaughter, Cheryl Smith, and husband, John, of Wisconsin; eight grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

She was Shelby County Farm Bureau Women's chairman and was a representative of the Legislative Committee at Washington, D.C., was chairwoman of the Myrtue Memorial Hospital Women's Auxiliary and was active in the county cancer program and Bloodmobile. She was a charter member of the Shelby County Historical Society, Prairie Trails Museum. She was a past noble grand in the Rebekah Lodge, a past matron in Eastern Star and served on the Rainbow Girls advisory board for many She received the Grand Cross of Color. She was a member of SI Club, Lincoln Social and two knitting clubs.

During World War II, she taught Red Cross home nursing at the Tennant Methodist Church. Mrs. Christensen was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold. Survivors include two sons, Robert D. and wife, Jeanne, and David A.

Funeral for Orville R. Wright, 81, of Grand Island, a former Council Bluffs resident, will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home with the Rev. Martin Schmidt of Trinity Lut-heran Church in Grand Island officiating. Mr.

Wright died July 17 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. He was born in Hazel Dell Township and served in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. He was a diesel mechanic shop foreman for 30 years for the Burlington Northern Truck Lines, retiring in 1984. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No.

She served as librarian of Our Savior's Lutheran Chu- Smith-Purdy rch for many years and was a member of Esther Circle, Women of Evangelical Lutheran Church, PEO Chapter LR and Cheerful Chicks Club. She participated in the Special Friend program at Children's Square USA and was a volunteer at Bethany Lutheran Home. Mrs. Purdy was preceded in death by her first husband. Donald Dee Smith, on Feb.
