hundred twenty children in the four county area of Buchanan Dickenson Russell and Tazewell have been screened thus far with the number to reach 12000 15000 in the next two years Presently) the ECDP evaluation component which includes the coordinator one referrals specialist two diagnostic aides and two social workers is compiling a referrals list in cooperation with county health and welfare agencies schools and medical personnel The referrals are secured by the referrals specialist who later passes them to social workers for the purpose of making the initial home visit The social workers serve as intermediaries between parents children the ECDP and the community If the parents express an interest in the program then the social workers transfer the information from the referral forms to the screening committee which is composed of the coordinators of the evaluation and the educational components The screening committee then decides whether or not the child needs to be referred to the educational component If the child is referred to the educational component a child development specialist reviews his case and then assigns his family to a home worker who resides in the same area If the child is not referred to the educational component he may be referred to an agency which deals with his specific difficulty The home workers make scheduled home visits usually once a week for a period of one hour at the convenience Theirjobistowork with and through the mother to promote the behavioral development of the infant Each of the 15 home workers has been assigned a maximum of five children to visit Eventually the individual case load will increase to 15 Prior to their regular visitations which require two days per week the home workers spend one day in consultation with the three child development specialists in preparation for the coming visits The two remaining days are spent attending in service training classes at the ECDP offices in Grundv wmtiw 6WB mmy Shelby
