race that will feature posted awards totalling $27000 This large cash total makes the 250 mile race the richest of its kind' in the world Another 250 mile The lack of adequate or complete effective treatment for any disease or health problem is the challenge of research The goal of research is to devolop such adequate and effective treatment Massengill research scientists concentrate on the out of each year Bristol becomes the Speed Capital of the US And one of these days soon the city may be able to claim that title for more than just two weeks The rapidly expanding Bris tol International Speedway add ed a new facility last year and work is progressing now on an other addition to the track's var ied program Completed and used last year for the first time was Bristol In ternational Dragway consider ed by all top drag race officials as the finest such fa cility in the world The facility got a highly publicized initia tion when most fa mous drag racers roared into town to take part in a series of' Springnational events A weekly drag race program was also set up for local drivers Road Course Work is underway now on the Bristol International Road Course and plans have been made for a United States Cham pionship Road Race as soon as the course is completed All of the top sports car drivers from this country and many foreign lands are expected to compete here when these plans become reality Bristol received nationwide publicity last year at the drag race events here when Conrad (Connie) Kalitta pushed his AAA dragster to a quarler mile speed of just under 210 mph the first man in history to reach such a drag race mark Hundreds of thousands of rac ing fans have streamed to the Twin City since the half mile Bristol International Speedway oval track was completed in 1961 Each year there are two 250 mile races at the track and sellout crowds are the rule With the addition of the dragway and road course over 200000 people are expected to watch speed events here each making the racing center the No 1 sports attraction in Ten nessee The track was founded by a corporation headed by Larry Carrier Carl Moore and Pope In 1962 Carrier and Moore bought interest in the enterprise The first major event ever held at the track was a pro foot a 1 1 exhibition between the Washington Redskins and the Philadelphia Eagles Among the famous personalities to make appearances at the track have been such people as Brenda Lee Patsy Cline Skeeter Davis ar on Young Ray Peterson Bobby Vce and a host of others Weekly Program In addition to the many major events slated for the various Bristol speed layouts in 1966 a weekly drag race program will also be presented The first 1966 maior racp at The Massengill Company manufactures over 275 fine pharmaceutical products which are used by phy sicians throughout the United States and in foreign countries The company also produces animal health products which are sold through veterinarians race will be held at
