Gerald Sandersjsinger and bassist for the group, is especially stoked about their new record, "Bustin' Surfboards '97," which took more than two years to complete. The album, which was finished this spring after two years of on-again, off-again recording, already is out in Europe on Germany's GeeDee label, and Sanders hopes to wrap up a deal for an American distributor in the next couple of months.

Sanders chuckles a little when people react with surprise to that, but says it's no joke: "I think that song really lends itself well to the surf treatment." The Tornadoes, rounded out by brother Norm Sanders on lead guitar, cousin Jesse Sanders on rhythm guitar, Leonard Delaney on drums and Ernie Tavizon on sax (he replaced original member George White), also got to play with friends from other pioneering surf bands on this record.
