NEW CAMBRIA LEADER VOLUME -TWO NEW CAMBRIA LEADER. MACON COUNTY, MISSOURI THURSDAY, OCTOBER 20, 1955 NUMBER 30 ANNIE POWELL PASSED AWAY 00T. 18 Mrs. Annie Powell, 87, native and life long resident of the New Cambria vicinity, died at 11:30 a. m.

Wednesday morning, October 12, at Doctor's Hospital in Brookfield where she had been a patient for the past week. Mrs. Annie Powell was born' north of New Cambria in Russell Township July 4. 1868, the daughter of Robert R. and Hannah Jones.

She was married to Humphrey Powell and their married life was spent on their farm south of New Cambria. Mrs. Powell was a member of the Congregational Church of New Cambria. She was preceded in death by her husband, who died in August 1950, a brother, Thomas E. Jones and two sisters, Eleanor and Cordelia Jones.

Surviving are one son, Perry, and one daughter, Miss Dorothy Powell, both of the home; one sister, Miss Minnie H. Jones of Denver, Colorado, and one brother. E. R. Jones of Lamar, Colorado.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p. m. Friday at the United Church of New Cambria by the Rev. Denver Flowers. Burial was in the New Cambria cemetery under the direction of Gilleland Funeral Service.

Pallbearers were Clint Williams, Louis Williams, Jonathan Biswell, Jack Rector, L. M. Thomas and Merton Cole. Out-of-town relatives attending the funeral were her sister Miss M. H.

Jones of Denver, Colorado, Bert Powell of Macon and Mra. Horace Evans of Kansas City. TALENT SHOW PRESENTED FRIDAY NIGHT A fair sized crowd attended the Talent Show sponsored by the Cambria Rebekah Lodge Friday night at the Town Hall. All the numbers were exceptionally good and every body not attending sure missed a good show. The program was as follows: Goofus Band, Members of Cambria Reb.

Roscoe Turner and Rickie and Dickie, will leave here Friday for Kansas City, to attend the wedding of Miss Lois Burk and Mr. Robert Barron which will take place Saturday afternoon, October 22, at the Community Christian Church in Kansas City. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Gibson and Doris and Dorothy will leave on Saturday and will also be present at the wedding.

Pauline Chinn attended from Cambria Rebekah Lodge. VALLEY EXTENSION CLUB MEETS Mrs. Alva Mallett was elected President of the Valley Extension Club at a recent meeting held in her home. Other officers were: VieMrs. Dayton Thomas Reporter, Mrs.

Lloyd Cook Parliamentarian, Mrs. U. S. Thomas Song Leader, Mrs. Griff Roberts Ten members and one visitor Mrs.

Nelle Crouch, were present. During the business session Mrs. Grouch made a talk and showed pictures of different homes in Macon County and of the 1954 County Achievement Day. Committees were appointed to furnish a card table exhibit and flower arrangemens for Achievement Day October 22. A pleasant social hour was enjoyed during which the hostess served delicious refreshments.

The next meeting will be 0c- tober 26 at the home of Mrs. Dayton Thomas. All members are urged to be present A8 A Halloween Party is being planned. MRS. CLARENCE HUDSON HONORED ON BIRTHDAY Mrs.

Dewayne Henry entertained at her home honoring Mrs. Clarence Hudson at a sur-. prise Friday evening dinner. Her birthday was the following' Saturday. Plates were laid for the following: Mr.

and Mrs. Dewayne Henry and son Francis. The evening was enjoyed wat. ching T.V. and the group also attended the Talent Show sponsored by the Cambria Rebekah Lodge at the Town Hall.

ENJOYED SKATING PARTY The Sunday school class taught by Mrs. Lindley Dunham went to Macon on Tuesday evening of last week for a skating party. Those who attended and some guests were: Jeanette Wood, Carolyn Matlick, Ronnie Wood, Larry Wickless, Phyllis Wood, Jack Gardner, Thelma Gardner, Jack Dowell, Bob Henley, Marjorie Cass, Grace erts, Karen Wehner, Gary Mallett. Patty Henley, Doris Cass, Elaine James, Mildred Bartholonew, Joan Ramsey, Morgan Thomas, Marilyn Cole, Harold James, Wanda Wood, and Mr. and Mrs.

Dunham. MISS ROSELLE REEDAL BRIDE OF LAWRENCE TECHAU A wedding was solemnized Wednesday, October 12, 1955, at 4 p.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Reedal, 605 E.

Washington, Kirksville, when their daughter, Roselle, became the bride of Lawrence Techau, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Techau of New Cambria. The Rev. Lloyd E.

Morgan of Princeton, read the double ring ceremony in the presence of the immediate family. The bride chose a street length dress of rose beige with black accessories and 8 corsage of white carnations. Mrs. Wilbur Techau, aunt of the bridegroom, her only attendant, wore a dress of navy blue with a white carnation corsage. The bridegroom wore a blue business suit and Wilbur Techau, his uncle, served him as best man.

He wore a tan business suit. Both had white carnation boutonnieres. Mra. Reedal chose for her daughter's wedding a rose suit with a corsage of white carnations. The mother of the bridegroom wore A dress of grey and a corsage of white carnations.

Immediately following the ceremony, a reception was held at the home of the bride's parents in Kirksville. Mrs. Ann Reedal and Miss Ruby Watkins served the three-tiered bride's cake and ice cream from a -covered table. The bride is a 1955 graduate of the Kirksville High school. The bridegroom is a 1953 graduate of the New Cambria High school and has attended the Teachers College.

He is now employed as production manager at the shoe factory. They will make their home at 701 W. Scott, Kirksville, Mo. MRS. BERTIE LEWIS, SISTER OF A.

R. JONES, PASSED AWAY IN KANSAS Mrs. Bertie B. Lewis, 70, a former Bevier resident, passed away Thursday morning following a heart attack at her home in McPherson. Kansas.

Mrs. Bertie B. Lewis was born February 9, 1885, in Bevier. She had made her home in McPherson, Kansas, for the past 10 years. Her husbandse preceded her in death in 1945.

She is survived by two sons, Murray of McPherson and William S. of Springdale, two daughters, Mrs. Zella Rustman of Beloit, Kansas, and Mrs. Evely Thorson of St. Louis; three grandchildren, one great grandchild; one brother, A.

R. Jones of New Cambria, and other relatives. Funeral services was held at 1 p. m. Sunday in the Bevier Funer Home conducted by the Rev.

Martin Cross. Burial was in West Oakwood cemetery. CARD OF THANKS We sincerely thank Mr. and Mrs. Howard Gilleland, Rev.

A. M. in a regular communication in their hall Friday evening, October 7, conferred a first degree and following the degree work. George W. Tainter of Marceline, was presented a fifty year pin by Past Master, Roger Freman.

Mr. Tainter has been a member of the Callao Lodge since 1925. Following this, all present who had been members twentyfive years or more were present'ed pins by Mr. Tainter in the Lodge. The following from New Cambria received pine: Paul Howard Gilleland, and L.

M. Thomas. ELMER WILCOX PASSED AWAY OCTOBER 13 Elmer Wilcox, 70, native and life long resident of the Ethel vicinity, passed away at 3:15 p. m. Thursday at his home northwest of Ethel after being in failing health for some time.

Elmer Wilcox was born October 27, 1885 near Ethel, the son of George and Delilah Wilcox. He is survived by his mother, Delilah Wilcox of the home, and four sons and four daughters, G. Gifford, Charles and Finis Wilcox, Mrs. Helen Mullinix and Mrs. Minnie Seaball, all of Cedar Rapids, lowa, Mrs.

Betty Stoddard of New Cambria, and Miss Alene Wilcox of the U. I S. Army in Texas. He also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Maudie Burnam, Mrs.

Phamie Smedley and Mrs. Ethel Rice, all of Ethel. Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Saturday at the Ethel Christian Church and burial was in the Bunch cemetery.

ENTERS HOSPITAL L. M. Thomas, who is sufferng from a siege of flu, entered the Samaritan Hospital in Macon Monday. Here is hoping for him a speedy recovery. NOTICE NOTICE Sportsman's Club will hold their next meeting Monday night, Ortober 24, at 8 o'clock at the Town Hall.

H. J. Gilleland. UNITED EVENING MISSIONARY MET OOTOBER 17 4The United Evening Missionary met Monday evening, October 17. at the Church parlor with Dorothy Thomas as leader and Ruthelma Holliman and Wanda Thomas co-hostesses.

The meeting was opened with a worship thought by the leaders. The following program was given: Hymn, Master Let Me Walk With Prayer by the Leader; Scripture, "The Great read in unison by the group; Meditation, "All the Answers" by Leader; Hymn, "Love Panel a Revolutionary characters, Vera Bailey, Eva Wickless, Ruth Chrisman, Wanda Webster and Donna Levett. Maxine Jobson and Evelyn Dunham reported on Western Conference which they attended recently Evelyn Dunham had charge of the business meeting. Roll call was answered by nineteen members. 00T. The third annual Conference' on Community Health will be held at the University of Missouri in Columbia October 31. It is sponsored by the Missouri Health Council in cooperation with the Department of Rural Sociology and the Adult Education and Extension Service. The major part of the program will be on reports of activities and projects carried out during the past year by some of the health councils in the State. Sessions of the one-day conference will be held in the Memorial Student Union beginning at 9:30 a.

m. RETURNED HOME SUNDAY Mra. Richard Mattick, who has been in a Kansas City hospital for a check-up the past week, returned home Sunday. STUDENTS ATTENDING STATE TEACHERS COLLEGE Five students from New Camgria are enrolled at the Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville, during the fall quarter of the 1955-56 school year. There are approximately ninety enrolled from Macon county, as part of one of the largest enrollments in the college.

These students are Charles R. Brehm; Joseph L. Mitch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe A.

Mitch: Phyllis Louise Porter, daughter of Mr. and Mra. Delbert Porter; Lester W. Rodgers, son of Mr. and Mrs.

M. J. Rodgers; Cecilia Orpha Mitch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Mitch.

THE EMBLETONG RETURNED HOME Mr. and Mrs. Everett Embleton have returned, home, from a 60- day North Eastern Canada, the New England and Southern States. High lights of their trip included, the tour around the Gaspe Peninsula, Montreal and Quebec City, Prince Edward sland, Canada's smallest Proince, Cape and the Cabot Trail, Nova Scotia. and the Evangeline country.

New Brunswick, Magnetic Hill, and the Reversing Falls. The Mountains of New Hampshire, the Great Stone Face, of Vermont, the birthplace of Coolidge, New York, Hyde Park, and West Po. t. Washington, MD. C.

The Blue Ridge Parkway Drive, Richmond, Virginia, the Capitol of the Confederecy, Restored liamsburg, Jamestown, the first English Settlement in America. Cape Cod, Plymouth Rock and Provincetown. On the return trip they visited, North and South Carolina, Georgia, Albama, Mississippi. Tennessee and Kentucky. After driving 8500 miles they think Missouri is the 1'st place after all.

VISITORS FROM ENGLAND Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Abeln and children have had 88 their guests this past week, Sgt. First Class and Mrs. Luther Gilbert and son Stephen Anthony from Oxford, England.

Mra. Gilbert is a sister of Mre. Abeln and it was the first time they had seen each other in almost nine years, Mrs. Abeln left England in March of 1947 when her sister. Anthea was just 14 years old.

Sgt. Gilbert, who is making the army his career has just completed five years overseas duty, is on his way to California for a further assignment. J. W. ROBERTE HONORED ON BIRTHDAY Dinner guests at the home of Mr.

and Mra. J. W. Roberta Sunday were, Mesdames Edith and Hertha Davis and Miss Charlotte Ann Hughes. The occasion was 18 celebrate the birthday anniversary of Mr Roberta.

Charlotte Ann Hughes was accompanied to Salisbury Sunday evening by Mr. and Mrs. Roberts, Mesdames Edith and Hertha Davis and were entertained lunch at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Hughes and daughter.

4. el 1 THE UNITED CHURON OF NEW CAMBRIA "GOD'S HOUSE" Just three years ago last day the United Church of New Cambria was dedicated as God's House. Truly, that is what 16 is and that is what we hope it shall always be. As a United Church we have been able to present a united Protestant front in this munity. We built our union on rock and have faith that in such a union there is strength for Christ in the Community of New Cambria.

We further believe that with love remaining as our guide and with Christ at the ter of our efforts, the United Church will serve the Kingdom of God well for many generations to come. The United Church stands a living memorial to the Christians young and old alike who have served this Kingdom this Community faithfully down through the years. The hands hat built this House of Worship gave their spiritual and physical substance to make this comInunity a better place in which to live. Three years ago we dedicated his building to the Glory of God. We now rededicate our United Church and our lives to the work of the living Christ as God has blessed us with this house in which we labor.

HELLO WORLD! Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Bixler of Kansas City, are the happy parents of a baby son, born Sunday, October 9, 1955, al the Trinity Lutheran Hospital.

He weighed 4 pounds and 4 ounces and has been named Rickie Lee Mrs. Bixter (formerly Sue Long) returned home Friday, but little Rickie Lee, who is in an degen tent, will remain in the hospi-' tat for awhile longer. m. at Chrisman's Hardware store. The business at, hand was means of making money to help pay for the band suits just ordered recently, It was decided to hold a FOOD SALE on SATURDAY, OCTORER 29th at 2 P. M. at the GLEN LONG BUILDING next door the Cafe.

Every one is urged bring food to the sale and also buy some thing to take home. Several people who have been members of the Band Boosters have failed to pay dues this yees. Please try to do this as soon a possible. New members are also welcome. Efficiency, Economy, (Endurance.
