Such is dyspepsia. The stomach and the jta.in are too Intimately allied for the one to suffer without the other. dyspepsia and despondency are inseparable. It may be added, too. that irritation of the stomach is almost in variably accompanied by irritation of the temper.

Therinvigcratrnc and tranquiliaing operation of Hoetetter's Bitters is most powerfully devel oped in cases of indkestion. The first effect of this asreeable tonic Is comforting and encoura- kiBC. A mild slow pervades the system, the earonio uneaainesa in tne resion or tne stomacn la lessened and the nervoua restlessness which characterizes the disease la abated. This im provement is not transient, It is not succeeded by the return of the old symptoms with superadded force, as is always the ease when unmedi-cated stimulants are given for the complaint. Bach dose seems to impart a permanent acces sion of healthful invigoration.

But this is not all. The aperient and anti-bilious properties of the preparation are scarcely secondary in im portance to its tonic virtues. If there ia an overflow of bile the secretion is soon brought within proper limits, and if the bileary organ is inert and torpid it is toned and regulated. The effect npon the discharging organs is equally sal utary, aad in cases of constipation the cathartic action is just sufficient to produce the desired result gradually and without pain. The Bitters also promote healthy evaporation from the surface whioh is particularly desirable at this season when sudden spells of raw.

unpleasant weather are apt to check the natural perspira tion and produce congestion of the liver, coughs and colds. The best safeguard against all dis eases is bodily vigor, and this the great Vegeta ble Restorative essentially promotes. dAw AMERICAN HOTEL, 1 (South Side of Rotlroad.) sfl Janoary, -For catalogue, snd fS'uWi President ot the University. Kas. d23-dlfcw4t Pliababt Ridcb, Km, Jan. 17th Ebrros Tixu Aap CoxsiBfAtiTi something startling in the history of the Kansas press that it does not take up, ia concurrence with the position of your papery (whose aedoa ia being the first to-; raise aToice in! behalf of the favored, historie6tate, is so commendable,) and entbusiasti-ealiy put up our claim for the removal of the Capital of the nation to is ithe matter with all of our editors? they-ulh one-eroyorTe -they--eonelded that, somehow or other bey may la'tbe distant future lose a small chunk of "bread and butter Believing neitfcer te be true, we are Utt just where we started, asking What can the matter be? Always so ready heretofore to vindicate even the smallest pretensions Of the State, the press has, thus far, strangely shown its inclination not to grapple with a great, momentous local question, and with it to stand er fall, and, it seems to me, plays a very; unenviable part. What is more astonishing learn that the latent settimeut of those who control a great portion ef thet leading btate papers, who have thought the question Jmpor-tant enough to form an opinion of any kind.

Is to the effect that, although our position is the most central, we have no point of sufficient importance to claim the capital, and that, there" fore, St. Louis or some ether powerful city must have it! If this ia true, it it is too" much the sentiment of bint -who regards position, wealth and pomp aa the acme of all importance ia human affairs, or the feelings of the shoddy aristocrat towards him who is nAnr and does not eoiov the importance of position or display of riches, though he be as Aridities aad-as honest as tbe father of his country. Let ns away with this. What was Washington before the capitol was estab lished there? Why did not New York, as be ing tbe most powerful city, and as well situated, secure the ofthe unimportant city Waahinirton? It is nonsense to talk such fWitbout appealing directly to statistics, let us coin pare a few general notes and ascertain. if we can, why Leavenworth should not be the capital: 1.

Is it true that Leavenworth does act eo-cupy, as the first desideratum," a central position If it is, and this is to decide, she should not be made the capital. z. Was ehe tha great avenues of travel la a degree sufficiently convenient to accommodate the public, and to warrant the country in making her the seat of government? If her situation on tbe second greatest navigable river on the continent, if net in the world, together with being one of the great railroad centers of what is now called the West, is not sufficient in this respect, then, some oiW mora favored city should be made-the eapitaL Jj; 3d. Can some other city offer greater pecuni ary inducements to tne uovernmeni, aa- mo desideratum third In Importance. than xlst inthe surroundings of Leavenworth If the sale of the thousands of acres of land now wned by the Government, upon which is the lite of Fort Leavenworth one of tne most peautiful in the world will not reach the most fabulous prioes, and bring into the Treasury millions of dollars, more than Can be Offered by another-city, added to "already expended in pubtio works, is not an important Inducement then Leavenworth shouia not be the capital.

Influential papers iaihe East are advocating bur cause, while our own papers merely note kbe fact, and advocate some other point, or fly off into asm aw-not-to-doit vagary and leave ins to slide passively along, without the slightest effort to save Leavenworth is strong, In' facti She does possess every ad van ta go that could be Said of any other point, and we hope. ho will wake up to the reality and go to work. Without intending to make, you or your pa per, in the least responsible in tne matter oi this. I have i written it as a citizen of Kansas, for the purpose" of calling upon the- press- and public men ltd) come and show their bands. Let those of us who are in favor of making Leavenworth the capital, and the treat oity "of interior America, know upon whom to depend, St.

Louis has her meetings almost every day and now let Leavenworth have her meetings. Let us begin at onea, in tbe interest, arouse the sentiment of the States, immediately upon the works, and the contest will coon have narrowed down to these two cities, and Leaven' worth will be the winner. Lbavbh worth. i II Ttk Koefcefort. The Commercial article ofthe ISth ef Janua ry, headed: iiuraanly Jiocliefort, prooves aain that we were very much mistaken when we thought that ther Leavenworth Dmwwm; or rather the journal representing the same, was liberal or trueiy Democratic, exoepting, always, when the question of the color of citi- tens inhabiting the United States is raised.

This artiole says that Napoleon is no tyrant, while the Congress ofthe United States is com posed of thieves. The author of said article maliciously omits to mention the forty millions which France is compelled to pay to one of its citizens, for tbe great advantage of being sent by him to Cayenne or Lambessa, whenever it suits his convenience, for what he calls a political crime. We said forty millions, well we could quadruple this amount without exaggeration, and then not mention the most precious ef thing be robs us of, vis So much Tor As to Rocbefort we can' say -that he ia a brave, liberty-loving; Frenchman, a Republican, and attacked by the ruffianly author of that article'. We" certainly did not expect this from an American citizen. The impudence of the fellow who addresses his fulsome eulogies to Napoleon and bespatters, at the same time the great Republican Roebei fort is refreshing.

Perhaps the fellow is speou-lating upon the chance of being elected emper-j or oi n.anBas, ana inns ne mignt receive tne same salary bis friend Nap is getting, besides stealings andjOther perquisites. Be easy, my boy be easy. Don't speak about what you don't know. Sbvbbaii Fbxhcb Citiuhs. JTrt 1 "-atollwa of turn sMayv 8 were shown yesterday Daniel Ham, of Williams town, two curiosities, which he unearthed near that town, April 1st, 1869.

He was fixing up a fence on his farm between Williamstown aud. Perry ville, and taking dowsj some stone from the' top of the bluff, north of the railroad traok, found a piece of curiously carved wood Imbedded between the top soil and solid rock. Oa examination be found that tbe board had decayed till it waa mere dust, but on soraping it away be found under it two silver Indian medals, which, -proved to bo of great value as relics. One 1 4s a silver British medaf of peouliar 'style, three and one-fourth inches la diameter, on the, reverse side having the British coat of arms, and on the obverse the medallion head of George ll and the words "Dei Gratia." other medal is of silver rather larger than an bid silver dollar. On one side is the inscription in a wreath, "Second Presidency of Geo.

Washington1, MDCCXCVI." On the wreath we also discovered a letter K. Oa the other aide a honse, tree, cow, calf, sheep, Shepherd and mountains, with the letters U. S. A.j and C. IT.

Kucbler, B. These medals were evidently buried by Indian, perhaps a Delaware, and may have a romantic history which Can' yet be written. Slay be some Eastern antiquary can write the history of these- medals aad give it to tbe press. Cannot some of the ofiieara of the Phil adelphia mint let as know the history ofthe Washington medal In the meantime should the curious desire any information they may obtain it by writiog Mr. Daniel Ham, Williams- town, Kansas.
