Provoked by this bantering defiance, Morillo ordered large detach ments to defile from right and left, in or der to surround the enemy and cut off" his retreat. lhi was the very movement which Paez awaited on its execution he calculated his success. Prompt at the moment, therefore, he gave laconic or ders to his little column, who, with lance in rest, rushed directly on the Spanish line Opening their passage to the rear they wheeled about and penetrated to the front again, with prodigious slaughter. She instantly related to him the circumstance, at the conclu sion of which the man was sent for. On his being questioned by the landlord on the subject, he totally denied it, and seemed to have no knowledge at all ol he affair. At length the poor widow, in seeming half distracted rage, exclaimed in a loud voice "My God I God! will you allow such conduct to go unpunished you who was our oiitV witness?" Io which the hardened wretch replied "if you call your God as a witness, he must be blind at that time, lor indeed there was no such thing." Scarcely had these last words escaptd his lips when he fell senseless on the floor, in which dreadful situation he still continues, and with very little hopes of recovery A short time previous to his being removed to his own house, the parish priest and a doctor arrived, but neither of them could afford him the least relief.

At the request of the poor widow they examined his person, when, to the utter horror and astonishment of all present, even his af flicted wife, who was the house at the time, they found the money, aud in the very same way as she handed it to him 1 We have received this morning the Paris papers of Sunday last. They state, that the intelligence of a plot to poison the Emperor of Austria in Italy has been confirmed. It was to have been carried into execution at llovigo, and was discovered only a very short time before the appointed moment of its execution. How the discovery was made is not mention ed but probably by the compunctious treachery of one of the conspirators. Private letters from Italy affirm that more than two hundred persons have been ar rested in consequence of this plot.

7 The Morning Chronicle will no doubt discover, again, that if there be a plot at all, it is a plot of the Emperor Francis and his own Court, got up with due formalities as a necessary preliminary towards exerci sing some despotick measures in that country.
