(INS) -Joe Louis Friday once again postponed a final decision on whether to con tinue his boxing career and called upon Japanese fight fans to help him make up his mind. The former heavyweight cham pion told newsmen in Tokyo that te had not had "a real test in the ring during his Japan exhibition tour. But he said he would go all out in his next bout in Japan, and he asked Japanese fans and sportswriters to tell him whether they think he should continue. Louis said he Can get an honest opinion in Japan. The brown bomber explained that so far, boxing mostly against American service personnel, he had not gained too much and he added he was in the same physical condition now as when he first arrived in the Far East.

Joe's manager, Marshall Miles, said he would attempt to arrange one or more tough bouts before the ex-champ returns to the United States where he will make his final decision. However, the bombers trainer, Manny Seaman, said privately that "Joe will make up hia own mind anyway even without a major lest. Asked about the merits of Ez-sard Charles and Champion Jersey Joe Walcott, the bomber predicted Charles would win his title back. Asked what he would do in another fight with Charles. l-nuis replied: I dont want to talk about it.

LaVannes Squires Makes History As Member of KU Varsity Quints squad of 24 Shrine football HIGH HONORS TO DRAKE GRID STAR Johnny Bright, Drake university backfield star, receives the Iowa AAUs "Outstanding Athlete award from Red Grange, the "Galloping Ghost of Illinois grid fame. Trotters Prep For Top Tilts AN OLD PRO NOBODY WANTS A great many fight fans have never heard of Archie Moore, the fighter, or having heard, know little about him, and so his announcement this week that he wants to fight so badly tiiat he is willing to come up to scratch with Harry (Kid) Matthews for a buck and give the rest of his purse to charity, may mean little or nothing to the average follower of the pugilistic pastime. Oh, he does, does he? Whats the matter with him, crazy or something? Why would any capable fighter be willing to fight for so little when others fight for so much? It doesn't make sense' might be the yawn-preceded rejoiner of the so-what" fan.

But the fact is that Archie Moore a veteran though he is, is probably one of the most capable light-heavyweights in action today. He is so good with his dukes that no 175-poundcr wants anything to do with him and few heavyweights care to discuss him at all. Significant is the fact that although Moore is rated the leading light-heavyweight contender for Joey Maxims crown, he has never been able to get a fight in Madison Square Garden. But while he grows older out of top contention, hundreds of younger fighters are parading across television screens of the nation in a weekly boxing parade of lesser great s. Desperate for action and a shot at a championship, Moore went last week to the International Boxing club, proposed his $1 fight plans and there signed articles to fight Matthews for the right to meet Maxim.

As we said, Moore is a veteran; he has been around a long time. A few years ago he was a terrific fighter, a crushing puncher who employed the combination blows to win his bouts. MAY NOT HAVE ENOUGH LEFT Whether he has enough still left to win over a rugged, tough, young fighter of Matthew's caliber certainly is not known, but most fighters of his weight division and even heavyweights are averse to tangling with this native of St. Louis who started scrambling ears and jolting chins for pay in 1936. Since that time Moore has had more than 100 professional fights, more than half of which he has won by knockouts.

That he is a tough cookie is attested to by most of those who have fought him and by many who have only watched him in action. One of the latter, Jersey Joe Walcott, the heavyweight champion, said on a television show this summer that Moore was one of the bad boys of the ring, a really hard man to tangle with. Walcott was quite frank during that interview. He said he did not want to fight Archie Moore. The champion said he could see no reason for taking risks with Moore when he could find so many less, rugged adversaries to fight.

While most fighters are not so frank and outspoken regarding Moore as was Jersey Joe, most of them have shown the same disinclination to meet the slugger from the Mound City. The result of this general avoidance of Moore in ring combat has caused the veteran to make his $1 fight offer. However, there is no assurance that Archie has even a one dollar fight in sight. Matthews has not consented to meet him. And many wiseacres believe Leading all the way for an easy win after overcoming a four-point Baylor read in the early minutes performance.

Actually, neither Moore nor his manager, Charlie Johnston, put much store in this latest effort to arrange a bout for Archie. Nobody wants to fight Archie Moore; he's too good and he's too tough.
