There will be ribbon fra all participants and sportsmanship awards, plus old time movies shown while other games are going on. Participants may bring their lunch or purchase food and drink from the Band Booster! lunch stand which will be provided both Saturdays.

Trophies will be given fra first place in each division and fra sportsmanship. The divisions are grades 1 through 5 (boys and girls elementary) and grades 7 through 12 (boys and girls secondary). Several clubs may go together to form a team if necessary. Officiating, scorekeeping, coaching, etc. is done by the 4-H members and their families.

There were 1,200 in attendance last year with 45 teams altered. The event is sponsored by the Nodaway County 4-H Council and the University of Missouri Extension Division. GIRL SCOUT MEETING by Darla Davis Thirteen were present March 8 fra the Girl Scout meeting. The girls are Invited to a Cadet Sing-In Friday at the Hope Lutheran Church at Maryville from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The girls decorated Shehans window in observance of the 64th anniversary of Girl Scouts.

VARIETY SHOW PLANNED MARCH 12 AT BARNARD A Variety Show, featuring home talent, will be presented March 12, at 8 p.m., at the South Nodaway School auditorium in Barnard. Joanne Phelps, wife of Lt Governor William G. Phelps, has been named state chairman for the 1978 Easter Seal Campaign, March 1, through Easter Sunday, April 18. Contributions received during the annual drive provide rehabilitation services for physically disabled children and adults. In accepting the chairmanship, Mrs. Phelps supports her husbands advocacy for vohmteerism.

Lt. Governor Phelps is State Volunteer Coordinator. War Memorial Planned for Courthouse Lawn The Maryville Jaycees and the National Guard are working on a Bicentennial War Memorial for Nodaway County. This will be made of granite and placed on the Maryville Courthouse lawn. Anyone interested in donating to this project please send money to the Maryville Jaycees, Box 44.

Norman Oberhauser has accepted the Special Event Chairmanship on behalf of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Mrs. Oberhauser will be recruiting volunteers within the community to plan an entertaining activity to take place this spring. The purpose of this Special Event will be to provide the community with information about Cystic Fibrosis and to raise funds to support research and care programs for children affected by lung-damaging diseases like Cystic Fibrosis, severe asthma, chronic bronchitis, and bronchiectasis. Cystic Fibrosis is the number one genetic killer of children.

Approximately one in every twenty Americans is a symptomless carrier of the recessive CF gene. Cystic Fibrosis is inherited when both parents carry the recessive gene. Farrens is a former caseworker for the office of family services and was a county supervisor for the defunct commodity foods program. He owns and operates a farm west of Burlington Jet. He is a member and past president of the Burlington Jet Kiwanis Club. He and his wife, Mary Ann, have four married children and attend the Christian Church. He is a life-long resident of Nodaway County, and is a graduate of Clearmont High School He operated a service station in Burlington Jet for 12 years.

In 1970, he was an unsuccessful candidate for the county clerks position, running second to John Zimmerman in the August primary. The associate judges post pays a salary of (5200 a year plus mileage. New Football Coach Appointed at NWMSU Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, has announced the appointment of James C. Redd, 33, as the Universitys new head football coach. Redd, a native of St.

Louis and a graduate of that citys Christian Brothers High School takes over the head coaching duties of a team he has served as an assistant coach for the past nine years.
