We feature four evenings of entertainment Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday 1138 VALLEY ROAD STIRLING 647-9855 "A Nice Place For Nice People" Apparently done with the angry young man phase, the Knglish have turned on their past to learn from it to paraphrase some famous philosopher. The latest is a delightfully hilarious parody on how to solve the prostitution problem, called THL BEST HOUSE IN LONDON, with more plot intricacies than the Pirates of Penzance another parody, same time, different subject. The plot, insofar as I can recapitulate in a small space, concerns a wellborn lady (Joanna Pettet) who takes upon herself the life mission of saving less wellborn young ladies from a life of shame and degradation by rescuing them from the streets, giving them a home and teaching them a trade.

She shares her home with "uncle" (George Sanders), who has a son (David Hemmings) he's disowned for being a coward and running the other way during the charge of the Light Brigade Father and son share a French lady of ill repute, and sonny tries mightily and underhandedly to be reinstated in the father's will so that he can inherit Dad's London holding- a school for girls and his Indian holding-an opium plantation. Our heroine is having her troubles finding room for her charges, keeping them happy at sewing machine and typewriter rather than at more lucrative pursuits and arousing public opinion to support her efforts in the girls' plight. Onto the scene comes the innocent young man (David Hemmings-yes, in a dual part), acting publicist for an eccentric Italian flying machine inventor, who takes up pen and cudgel in the Cause of Purity. Confused? It's only the beginning. Uncle has somy friends high up in the government who have their own problems: the prostitutes are interfering with the trade in Mayfair.

Solution: THE BEST HOUSE IN LONDON, but of course. Uncle, though, is shot in an uprising on his opium plantation and by devious means, setting up the house falls to the wiles of the blackguard son. And what a house it is. The Marquis himself could not have envisioned more voluptuous surroundings, more imaginative rooms. mod provacative "entertainments." Just everybody in on don society all the men are present foi Ihe opening of the newest gentlemen's club in town And then the fun begins, but that would be giving away surprises.

Dind Hemmings handles both roles masterfully, that of villain and at hero. Practically twirling his fullblown mustache while let-ring wickedly at the fallen beauties in his role as the villain; blushing shamefacedly while casting eyes to the heavens as the clean-shaven blonde hero, he is marvelous. Hemmings has wanted to get away from the sterotype of the he made famous by his role in BLOWUP, and does admirably. He displays an aptitude for comedy and satire that foretells more delights to come. The girls are all young lovlies, Joanna Pettet one of the loveliest.

But they all look like they just stepped out of Kenneth's, not out of Godey's Ladies Book. George Sanders, tart and sharp as usual, lends spice as usual. It's all deliciously naughty, joyfully tongue-in-cheek satire and surprisingly innocent despite its bare breasts and concentration on sex. The pacing is so fast, the dialogue so rapid, the cutting in and out of scenes so quick, that you have to watch sharply to catch all the goodies. But it's worth it.

ATLANTIC COUNTY has a host of surprises. Nearby Atlantic City has pretty girls, the famous five-mile boardwalk and the world's largest organ in the world's largest auditorium. Monopoly buffs will get a blast from watching street names like Park Place, Baltic and Meditteranean. You won see a sign that reads "go directly to jail" but you will want to "take a walk on the boardwalk." Built to the hilt with hotels, it's unlike the game in that it's been free to strollers since it was established in 1870.
