James Slinn has heard from' his family, who are in Stafford County, in forming him that its a boy, born Wednesday morning, and Jimmie" is in a peck of trouble to see the new heir. The Barton County Medical Society will meet at the Court House, Tuesday, April 14th, 1885, at 1 o'clock p.

m. Physicians of Barton county are cordially invited to attend! The depot at Pawnee Rock was de" otroyed by fire Monday morning, caused by bales of broom corn on the platform taking fire from a passing engine. The citizens saved most of the goods in the depot. Miss Mollie Grubb, who has spent the winter with her cousin Mrs. Geo Moses, returned home to Illinois, this week.

Mrs. Odell accompanied her, and will visit friends in Illinois for a few months The City schools opened again Mon day after a week's vacation. Prof. Car rawayisvery energetic in urging his pupils forward. The several depart ments nave made excellent progress under his management thus far.

The City Council last night ap pointed Dr. Castle, Clerk; Cal Crilly, Marshal; A. S. Allen, Treasurer Rube Frey night watch. City Attorney was postponed till next meeting.

Mcintosh is well known here as number one merchant and a jolly good fellow, and we feel assured of his success in business The young folks of Pawnee Rock will give a dramatic entertainment at their new church, Tuesday evening April 14th, entitled "The Turn of the Tide," a very interesting and instructive temperance drama. The proceeds are to be donated to the churrh for the pur- chase of an organ. The parties taking part in the entertainment vail make it a decided success, and it is safe to say the house will be jammed The re-election of Mayor Moses is a iust tribute to one who has labored earnestly the past year for the best in- terests of the city. The Register's in- fluence in "showing up" the last admin- istration was in the shape of a boome- rang, returning with more force on the operator than any one else. The pres- ent administration should avoid drawing forth any complimentary remarks from that journal if they value them standing in the community.

A. Sad Accident. On Monday of last week T. Myers, an enterprising farmer of town ship left town with a very heavy load of fence posts. When he arrived at Calf creek, about fourteen miles north east of town, darkness overtook him, and his team, by some means got out of the road and ran over a steep bank, turning the wagon upside down, the entire load falling upon him.

Editor TRIBUNE The Methodist conference in session last month at El Dorado, decided to es tablish a college of full collegeate grade, within the bounds of the Southwest Kansas Conference, to be known as the Southwest Kansas College.

The con- ditions necessary for any place to secure are cot less than twenty acres of land and not Ies3 than $15,000 toward the building donated by the citizens, corporation or community, offering best inducements and advantages. A corn- mittee of seven was appointed by the con ference, with Rev. N. S. Buckner as chairman, to locate this college.

The committee meets in Wichita, May 12th, 1885, to determine the site. Ought not Great Bend to make every endeavor to this college This will be an insti- tution which will be a credit to any town the state. James Clavton.
