One of my buddies was struck in the arm by shrap nel but there he was without a whimper holding on to the wound so that he bleed to death My other buddy was wounded in the side I crept over and held him in my arms until a hospital corpsman could come up I was scared but untouched begin ning to believe I lead a charmed South enlisted in the Marines March 11 1942 was in training at San Diego for four months before being sent overseas to Samoa September 18 1942 After a siege of malaria he was sent to a rest camp in Australia where he was an instructor before being again sent to active service 37 The American Legion and Aux iliary held a joint meeting fol lowed by the annual chili feed Tuesday with a big crowd present In charge of the feed were Mrs Chester Roecher chairman Mrs Brooke
