John Cochrane, Julian Balr. Little Gladys Crawford entertained her friends delightfully Friday at I o'clock, the occasion being her eighth birthday. Shortly after o'clock the little folks began eomlng, each bearing some token for their little playmate. After all had gathered childish games were' enjoyed for a while, then all engaged In a peanut hunt, In which James Studdart came out wlnnerr having found more than the rest. He was given a storybook for his diligence.

All the children were then grouped to have their pictures taken, each trying to look their sweetest. At a call from the mother they marched Into the dining room, where a lovely birthday cake containing eight candles had been arranged quite artistically, and eaoh one drew a ribbon from the cake. Little Doris Newman and Vernon Stud-dart were the successful ones in this contest. Misses Louise Hartung, Delia May Crawford, May Belle and Varne Cockrell assisted the hostess In serving refreshments. Last, but not least exciting was the contest of pinning the foot to a large painted duck on the wall of the sitting room.

Lillian Barden was given a unique Uttle checker board as winner. little folks gathered at the home of the host and hostess at 6:30. After the drawing contest for the favors, which were beautiful creations. In fancy hats for the girls: horns, whistles and grotesque caps for the boys, fashioned by the deft fingers of Mrs. Beardsley and Miss Moore, all adorned themselves and started for the ride through the principal streets, down the shell road to the place of destination, Crystal Springs park, followed closely by a mysterious automobile, which passed on the way. Arriving at the park, the guests found a daintily appointed table laden with good things that specially delight the child, including oh, so many bottles of soda pop (children's delight).

A toast to the soda pop man, appetites were soon appeased. A few hours of music, dancing and games, and the little guests were placed In safety at home, not too sleepy to declare if the best time of their life. F. Frederick gave a linen shower on Tuesday afternoon for her sis ter, Miss Idabel Funk, whose marriage takes place soon. The decorations were pink and white. The punch bowl was presided over by Misses Eunice Northrup and Juanlta Frederick. The center table contained a beautiful pink basket with strings of pink hearts reaching from the chandelier to the corners of the table.

Sophia Priest, an old resident of Harris county, celebrated her eighty-fourth birthday anniversary. Mrs. Priest came to America from Germany In M51, and shortly thereafter settled on her present home on Brays bayou, where she has resided since. She was the mother of eight children, four of whom are living. These with seventen grandchildren and six and a few olose friends participated the celebration, which consisted principally of a good old-fashioned barbecue with trimmings.

Dinner was served In the spacious dining haD, which waa prettily decorated- with) vines and flowers, while an orchestra hidden behind bank of flowers played sweet music. Later In the evening an Informal dance was Indulged in, in which Mrs. Priest, despite her age, also participated. After a most enjoyable day spent In the home of the hospitable lady, the guests departed wishing her -many happy returns of the day. The Baracas of the McKee Street church entertained In honor of Carroll Bherman and Miss Myrtle Hine Thurs-dsy night with a hay ride as a farewell entertainment before their marriage, which Is to take Place Wednesday.

The wagon left the McKee Street church with a merry crowd of young folks and many well-filled baskets. The route lay out on the Crosby road and at Englewood refreshment' were served. Those participating were: Mr. and Mrs. L.
