Kerscher Is at San Antonio at the present time, driving his car the free-for-all events there. He has made a great hit with the San Antonio funs and wllf" undoubtedly duplicate his stunts here. Kerscher first sprang Into fame In Europe when a kid and came to this country as a mechanician.

He gradually worked himself Into the limelight' until he stands today one of the marvels of the racing game. The Darracq which Kerscher drives Is the same as Wagner piloted to victory In the Vanderbilt cup race a couple of years ago. Last winter on the Daytona beach In Florida the same, machine upset the dope pot when it negotiated a mile in thirty-one seconds. Two years ago at Dead Horse hill In Massachusetts the Darracq established a mark for- hill climbing that has never been beaten. Kerscher has always entertained the Idea that he could measure strength with the mighty Barney Oldfleld on a small track, and the meet here wlH give the death-defying Dutchman a chance to demonstrate how well he can make good.

Kerscher said over the long distance M'sPills FOR TORPID LIVER. A torpid liver deranges the whole system, and produces SICK HEADACHE, Dyspepsia, Costiveness, Rheumatism, Sallow Skin and Piles. Doak Roberta In town. Otto Bens has drawn a line through the datei cf his hunting calendar and Thursday will bring Hunter Hill all tho way from the Hill ranch, near Austin, to the Tremont. and the shaking up, screening and voting of the prospective elect of the new yenr Buffaloes begun. Doak Hubert arrived In Houston Sunday night and Jias been busily laying the wires for the conferences to begin Thursday wnen the pen-naut-vlnnlng field manager arrives. Pome twenty new faces will appear In West End park along In March of tin coming year, all prospective Buffaloes, but, of course.

It's certain all will nut st'ck through the dreaded elimination Doak believes In new faces, but although some the old team the present champions will be holdovers, this number will be small. PLAYERS SECURED AT MEMPHIS. For the past few weeks Sens and Roberts have had scouts In the field, and Doak personally carried this campaign Into Memphis, where he attended tho meeting of the National association. There Doak broke Into the councils of the South Atlantic league, and althougn some of the new Buffalo candidates are from this organization there Is certain to be one catcher who will stick It out with the Buffaloes. Since the trade Is still tentative the name Is withheld, but it might be Interesting to know he can handle tlvj stick like a fiend.

At Mempnls Roberts started the promotion of several from the class organization to the coming class of Texas, and when the training season opens In March a line of huskies, all vowing they can hit the hail and supported by their records, will line up before the club house to draw uniforms, the first Initiation into the club of champions. From Texas two players wll be drawn Pitcher McGlnnls of Temple has been signed and will be one of the first to report. McGlnnls pitched last vear for Cameron, and won eighteen games out of twenty-three. From this Doak believed McGlnnls would be eligible as a champion, so promptly signed him. McGlnnls can hit some.

too. but as he was not In organized ball last year his official sticking average Is unknown. But McGlnnls will be welcome, and If ho can step Into the shoes of one Stewart Rose et al, such a welcome will be his that a vocabulary of adjectives would fall to picture the reception. A STAR HITTER COMING. But from the Far West of Texas comes a second Pat Newnam so 'tis said ami Sens and Roberts are prone to accept the word of Umpire Derrick, who secure 1 the option for the Houston club on the big recruit.

This name, too. Is withheld, but Its nuf sed when It's known that In eleven times at bat In three game he pulled down aeven blngles. He Is a first baseman and an outfielder, but as the 1910 Buffaloes are In the hazy dis tance now It's unknown where he will at tempt to make good. And this maklm good must be done wth a vengeance If any of the elect desires to star through the Texas league next summer with a halo around his caii as a Buffalo. Batting will be the primi requisite, and those who through the training season that can not wield the stick will find themselves one of the number that must go to reduce the stock of nearly thirty players.

A player who ran not bat will he nil as a Buffalo, but room may be found for them If Galveston still persists In guarding the rear end of the table. Of course, while hattinar will be the paramount Issue, a who can not pitch or an outfielder believes he Is there only to guard the fence will find himself also among the disappointed. GO AFTER BATTING RECORDS. Houston started last season with a more than doubtful batting list, bu: this year Sens and Roberts propose to gang-up the best hitters of the best fielders, and In the ensemble cop the pennant, or rather, as Is the case next year, defend the flag. When Hill arrives In Houston Thursday the joining together of the pieces will begin, and by the time the conferences adjourn for the hunt on the bayslde at Sens' place the outlines of the 1910 Buf faloes will have been drawn, the proim-ble players named and arrangements the training aeaaon made.

As to the coming of the Cleveland ball club their dates may be deferred until the end of the training season. Dates fir the New Tork Giants and the Detrof Americans have been arranged, these two teams to play In Houston while tne Browns are In Dallas and San Antonn-As the coming earlier of the Naps wouid conflict wtlh the Browns' dates their engagement necessarily must be deferred. Apropos of the baseball discussion will be Interesting to Houstonlans an.l followers of Texas baseball to know that Brooks Gordon. Houston's catcher- lat year, will become a benedict. Doak Roberts has received a letter from Brook which tells of his forthcoming Missouri next week.

THE HOUSTON LAUNCH CLUB Met in New Quarters To Break Ground for Auto Oarage. Members of the Houston Launch club met last night In the new rooms of the Houston Business League In the Chronicle building. The attendance was rather below the usual standard, and as little business of an Important nature was to be transacted the meeting adjourned at an early hour. Material will be on the ground this morning for the construction of the launch club's new automobile garage and ground la expected to be broken within the next day or two. On completion of the garage, which Is to consist of eight stalls, ground will he formally broken for the construction of the club house.

It being the desire of Architect Steele to have some shelter under which to store the cement and other material before commencing work on the larger building. At the next meeting plana for the annual Thanksgiving Day run and oyster roast at the Ban Jacinto battlefield are expected to be completed, and though no formal action has been taken up to the present. (Houston Port Sptcijt LOCKHART.

Texas. November will not be a member of the South Texas league of baseball. This decision was reached after mature deliberation and waa on account of aeveral things, but the most Important one waa on account of not being able to play ball here Sundays. So far lxckhart has never had a team that has played Sunday either here or away, and those who had the organisation In hand found so much opposition lo the Sumlav ball playing that they concluded that it would be he not tu attempt joining the league at this time.
