H. DE YOUNG DIES AFTER AN OPERATION Was the Owner of San Francisco's Leading Newspaper San Francisco, Feb. H. De Young, publisher of San Francisco Chronicle, died tothere night after an operation this afternoon for intestinal Mr. DeYoung was born in St.

Louis, In 1849. At an early age he removed to San Francisco and was educated here. In 1865 Mr. DeYoung, with his brother, Charles, established the Democratic Chronicle, which became a leading newspaper. On the death of Charles 1880, Mr.

DeYoung became sole proprietor of the paper and its editor-in-chief. The largest dally newspapers in the Unitad States. Pope Worships at Holy Door Rome, Feb. Rudolph Valentino Sainted Devil" Death of F. E. Olmstead Palo Alto, Feb. Erskine Olmstead, aged 53, an official of the United States Forest ServIce from 1900 to 1912 and a close associate of Gifford Pinchot, while he was national forest chief, died at his home here yesterday. Olmstead was a graduate of Yale Untversity and rowed on the Yale crew in 1892, 1893 and 1894.

Wilkes- Choral Society to Compete Nanticoke Choral Society will compete at the Edwardsville Eisteddfod to be held on March 17 and April 1 respectively. Meeting Postponed The meeting of the Athletic Council of the Nanticoke High School Alumni Association which was scheduled to take place yesterday afternoon was postponed until next Sunday afternoon when all members will be attendance.

Nanticoke, Pa, "A Sainted Devil" The Paramount Long Island studio recently took on the appearance of a dancing school during the Alming of Rudolph Valentino's newest, production, "A Sainted Devil." Dance To-night Pythian Home, Plymouth: Shawnee Dance Club Foot: Amputated Clarence Buckley, aged 18, of Hunlock Creek, a laborer at the new Luzerne County Gas Electric Company power plant at that place, was admitted to Nanticoke State Hospital on Saturday night, suffering with injuries to the right foot, which necessitated amputation.

Mr. Buckley, attampted to board. a. D.ha W. train at West Nanticoke, and slipped beneath the wheels, causing the Injuries.

His condition was reported as being serious. A Valentine party was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Chesney on Saturday night in honor of their daughter, Viola. Miss Winifred Arnott, of Wilkes -Barre, entertained with several piano selections, after which Miss Viola Chesney and Sophia entertained with piano duet.
