C. Wltwer, indicted Wednesday on three charges of unlawfully receiving deposits when. It Is alleged, he knew the Western Bank and Trust company was ln failing circumstances, arrived at the Pallas county sheriffs office thla forenoon. Wltwer was to have been met by Deputy Sheriff Delec at Fort Worth, but the Dallas deputy missed his man and New brought Wltwer on to Dallas. Wltwer Immediately telephoned to Wendell Spence of the firm of Spence, Knight, Baker ft HarrlB, and Spence began to make arrangements for Wltwer's bond.

Judge Seay ordered Sheriff Ledbetter to accept ball ln the sum of $5000 ln each case. The sureties were Perry O. Claiborne, broker, and Wendell Spence, attorney. Wltwer says the indictment was a surprise to him. "1 never suspected anything of the kind." he said.

Asked If he recalled the specific deposits on which the affidavits are based he replied that he did not even know on what the Indictments were based. It la expected that County Attorney Levelling will urge that Fleming and Witwer be tried before he relinquishes his office In November. Lewelllng is to be assisted by Judge Charles F. Cline, retained by the depositors as special prosecutor. Spence, Knight, Baiter ft Harris will represent Witwer.

LOCK HART, Texas, September Lockhart and vicinity has had the longest drouth this summer that we have had in lnanv years. It has not rained litre since the latter part of May. All the stock water In the northern part of the county is practically dried up. The farmers are hauling all their water from Lockhart, Lyton Springs and Creedmoor. The notion crop has been cut short on account of the lack of rain.
