Late deliveries of corn dropped and gets finished to down. Provisions were dull and closed unchanged to 87 lower. Weather Conditions The barometer ha risen in ell portion of the South, and this morning's weather map gives no indications of the presence of a trcpical storm. At Havana the barometer at 7 a. m. was normal and had risen 10-inch in the last 24 hours, indictting thtt the storm center is receding from Havana. Advices received -at 9:97 a.

m. show the storm central in the Yucatan channel, passing the gulf and probably moving a little north of west. Local showers occurred in Texaa and in a few cen tral and eastern sections of the cotton belt. There were also showers in northwestern districts and New Mexico. Rising temperatures were reported from the Central valleys and adjoining sections.

At Textt stations the low. est last night rsnged from 04 degrees at Amarillo to 82 degrees at Corpus Christi. At Houston it was 71 degrees. Unsettled weatner is expected in. this vicinity tonight and Friday.

Early corn is ripening in the South. In Oklahoma corn has been damaged beyond recovery in many sections and is being cut for fodder and ensilsge. High temperatures and dry weather in the Southwest was unfavorable for white potatoes. Sweet potatoes made good growth under favorable weather in practically all Southern States and the cron is bein" harvested in Texaa and Tennessee. Sugar cane and peanuts made sstisfactory growth.

The crisis in the railway labor lituation was the only restrain-1 ing influence In today's market. Share of the leading transportation companies were not seriously affected while other issues were lifted to highest levels of the current movement.

Shipping share were again dominant features, Mercantile Marine common making a new record an it rise of 4Vh. United States Steel kept pace with Marines, advancing 14 to OH, and independent industrial companies, noubly Lackawanna and Steels, were strong. Republic preferred attaining a new record at 1134. Munitions and equipments fluctuated 1 to 2 point above under the previous day's closing prices, but Motora, Mexicans and less conspicuous specialties of various classes were firm to strong. Coppers infused fresh activity in the irregular trend of the final hour.

There also waa a better inquiry for prominent utilities, including American Telephone and Telegraph. The total overturn waa shares. Bonds were irregular. Totol aalea, par value, 04,050,000. United States bonds were unchanged on call.

Although there were reactions, future prieea stood at a net advance most of the day. and while last prices were several points down from the highest of day.

the dote was at net gain. New York closing barely steady, to IS points up, and New Orleans steady, to points up. Liverpool futures closed quiet, 1 to points up Houston spots were steady and up, middling at M.sMc. Sales were SM bales spot and 48M bales to arrtve. Galveston was steady and unchanged.

New Orleans was unchanged at 14 cents. New York was steady and IS points up, middling at 14.4Bc. L'ver. pool reported an improved demand and sales were 8900 bales, the largest for any one day in severtl weeks. The ton was easier, however, and prices wore points down.

Receipts of cotton at Houston were 4413 bales, against SSST bales the day before and 764 bales Thursday a year ago. Shipment were S4M bale. Total stock in Houston presses and warehouses Thursday were 14,444 bales. Gross receipts for the week were lav est bales, against 19,220 bales for this timt last year. Hew York Cotton Market.

Apprehensions as to the course of the tropical storm reported in the gulf caused a sharp advance in the cotton market here today, but the improvement was not fully maintained end the dose was barely steady at a net gain of 14 to It points. December contracts sold up from 14.S to 14.BB, or about SS points above the lowest reached on the break at the end of last week, and closed at 14.48. The market opened steady at an advance of 1 to points and sold I to 10 points net higher right after the call. The failure of the early weather map to show much rairt in the Southwest as had been suggested by private reports appeared to be partly responsible for early buying.

Slight reactions followed publication of the forecast for unsettled weather in Texas, but the market firmed upon report that the West Indian disturbance was passing through the Yucatan channel into the gulf and was moving rapidly in a direction slightly north of west. This led to apprehensions that the storm would reach the Central or West gulf coast br the end of the week. Liquidation at time was fairly heavy and the forecast of unsettled weather for Texas and Oklahoma made a bearish impression, hut fear that the tropical storm would strike the gulf coast and work havoc with the cotton crop was alwaya a sustaining feature. The market opened at the advance and the gain gradually widened until around the middle of the day, the most active months were at a net rise 17 to 18 point. Liquidation caused a small reaction in the afternoon and the close was at a net gain of IS to IS point.
