DAVE THRUSH The Camas Valley Home Extension Unit held its organizational meeting recently in the Methodist Church.

A potluck luncheon was followed by a short business meeting. Mrs. Frank Kinnan, president, appointed Mrs. Wayman Schmidt as the ACWW and decorations chairman. Mrs.

Lucille MacLean was appointed as the new secretary-treasurer. Mrs. Dave Thrush was appointed publicity chairman. There were 16 women in attendance. The next meeting "Choosing and Using Paint in Your Home," will be Oct.

17 at 10 a.m. at the Methodist Church. Everyone is invited to attend and bring a friend. A sack lunch will be served. There will be a baby sitter on hand to attend the children.

Juvenile Grange Meets The Camas Valley Juvenile Grange met recently at the Grange Hall with nine members present. Master Richard Oliver conducted the meeting. He stated the money had been received from the Douglas County Fair Board for the group's prize-winning Fair booth. The next meeting will be Oct. 7 at 1:30 p.m.

The Women's Society of Christian Service met at the Methodist Church recently with 10 members present. Devotions were given by Mrs. Guy Moore. The lesson, "Why Missions Today," was given by Mrs. Kenneth Bright.

It was reported the folding door the WSCS purchased for the kitchen and social room has arrived. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Merrill spent one day the past week in Coos Bay. Californiarts Visit Mr.

and Mrs. Bill Schulze of San Bruno, spent several days the past week visiting their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Dwayne Hibbard and family in Camas Valley. The two families picnicked at a wayside park near Powers one day while the visitors were here.

Recent house guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Booth were Mrs. Booth's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs.

H. L. Smith from Orangevale, Calif. The Smiths also visited their son, Gail Smith and his family, in Myrtle Point, Bernard Denn of Portland and formerly of Camas Valley, spent a few days the past week visiting and attending to business in the valley. Tom Huckins was recently taken to the Cottage Grove hospital, suffering from a heart attack.

Mrs. Kenneth Huckins and chil dren and her father Pat Haley of Coos Bay visited Sunday at the home of Mrs. H'ickins' grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Haley, in independance.

Kennedy Planning To Pick Thompson NEWPORT, R. I. (UPI)-Pres-ident Kennedy announced Saturday he will nominate Llewelyn Thompson, former U.S. ambassa dor to the Soviet Union, as ambassador at large with special duties as an adviser on Russia. Thompson, who was succeeded in Moscow recently by Ambas sador Foy Kohlcr, will be ranking adviser to Secretary of State Dean Rusk in his new assignment, the White House said.

"In this capacity Ambassador Thompson will be available to the secretary of state and to the pres ident for special Press Secretary Pierre Salinger reported. Jackson 1 1 WHAT By JO CARLILE Mrl. and Mrs. Elmer Lovett of Drain, with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Warren White of Eureka, spent a recent week at Sekiu, fishing.

While there they visited at the home of White's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Willis White. They also went to the World's Fair and visited Lovett's brother and family, the Walter LOvetts, at Sumner, Wash. Mrs.

A. M. Boagn visited relatives In Seattle and Suquamish, over the weekend. While in Seattle she went to the World's Fair. Mr.

and Mrs. George McRey-nolds of Cottage Grove and Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Chapman went on an overnight camp-out on the North Umpqua returning via Crescent Lake. Sunday guests at the home of Mr.

and Mrs. Sherman Chapman were Mr. and Mrs. Merle Porter of Cottage Grove, who were en route to Arizona. Other guests were the Porter's son and daughter-in-law, Mr.

and Mrs. David Porter, and children, recently of Spokane, Wash. The David Porters wore en-route to Japan whore he will be stationed with the U. S. Air Force.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Johnson and children visited over the weekend at the home of Johnson's mother. Mrs. Lon Sweet, en route to their home at Olivehurst, Calif.

The Johnsons have been vacationing in Oklahoma. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Lott of To-peka, have arrived to visit with Mr. and Mrs.

Charles Johnson. Mrs. Johnson and Lott are cousins. Mrs. George Gibbs of Ontario.

is visiting at the home of her nephew, Clyde Buck, and with other relatives in the coast area. Mr. and Mrs. Clark Cole vacationed four days in In Reno they visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs.

Jacl Sifers, then went to Carson City and Virginia City before returning home. Ron- ny stayed at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Cole while his parents were gone. Methodist Women Open Fall Meetings The Women's Society of Chris tain Service of the First Methodist Church of Roseburg met recently at me cnurcn.

The devotions were led by Mrs. Arthur Marsh. Mrs. J. M.

Boyles concluded tne first fall meeting. During the meeting it was an nounced that the sub-district meet ing will be held Sept. 21 at Drain. A rummage sale by the Roseburg Women's Society of Christian Service will be held at the church Oct. 4 and 5.

Other announcements included the start of "Break Thru," a television program new to this area, Oct. and a WSCS tea Oct. 14 to be held at the Methodist Home in Salem. The program followed the regular meeting. Mrs.

H. James Jenkins entertained with a talk concerning a recent visit to the Jessie Lee home in Seward, Alaska. Mrs. Howard Roberts lead a program on "What Hast Thou in Thy Hand?" She was assisted by Mrs. Wayne Mosher, Mrs.

Charles Colgrove, Mrs. Emmett, Gibbons, Mrs. Ted Chiesna, Mrs. William C. Woods and Mrs.

Paul Orr.
