Jane Greer had roles into mid '80s Marvin Weist of San Antonio writes, enjoy watching anything with Jane Greer in it. Is she still living? If so, what is she doing?" The popular star of the 1940s was born Bettejanc Greer Sept. 9, 1924, in Washington, D.C. She decided she wanted to be an actress while still in her teens. Those dreams were almost shattered when she developed facial paralysis.

Luckily, after months of painful therapy, she overcame the condition. Greer began her career as a singer with Enric Madriguera's band in a club in her hometown, singing phonetically in Spanish. She then became a model. After being seen by Howard Hughes in a newsrcel modeling a WAC uniform, she was whisked away to Hollywood by the reclusive billionaire movie maker, where he was going to make her into a star. The 18-year-old didn't make her film debut until three years later though.

In the meantime, she was briefly married to crooner Rudy Vallec (1943-45). It was Vallee I wonder what happened who helped her get out of her contract with Hughes and secure another pact with RKO Studios. Over the next five years, she appeared in 13 films starting with a one-line role in "Pan Americana." Some of her other films during this period include "George White's Scandals," "Dick Tracy," "The Falcon's Alibi," "The Bamboo Blonde," "Sinbad the Sailor," "Sunset Pass," 'They Won't Believe Me," "Station West," 'The Big Steal," "The Company She Keeps" and the "Prisoner of Zenda." She then had a seven-year hiatus from films but was talked into co-starring in the Lon Chancy film biography "The Man With a Thousand Faces." She is perhaps best-known as the amoral woman who makes fools out of Kirk Douglas arid Robert Mitchum in "Out of the Past" (1947). Also in 1947, she married Beverly Hills attorney Edward Lasker, by whom she had three sons, before divorcing him in 1967. In the early 1970s, Greer was diagnosed with a heart condition.

The peoblem was eventually surgically corrected. Greer continued to act on into the 1970s and 1980s. She had a costarring role as Robert Duvall's grieving sister-in-law in "The Outfit" and in 1984, she was cast in the remake of "Out of the Past," called "Against All Odds." She played the devious mother of the amoral girl, this time played by Australian actress Rachel Ward. In 1984-85, she played Susan Sullivan's mother on the nighttime soap "Falcon Crest." The still-beautiful 67-year-old actress lives in comfortable retirement in downtown Los Angeles. By MICHAEL BOWLIN Address your questions to "I WONDER WHAT HAPPENED P.O.
