1912. REPUBLICANS OPTIMISTIC Third Party Movement Is Not Taken Seriously. H. F. MacGregor, Republican National Committeeman for Texas, Made Recommendations Concerning Appointments.

In the opinion of Colonel H. F. MacGregor, Republican National Committeeman for Texas, the revitalizing of the Republican party will not be greatly hampered by the Progressive movement, the titular head of which during the recent campaign was Theodore Roosevelt. Colonel MacGregor bases his opinion on the fact that many persons prominent in Bull Moose ranks- -the colloquial name of the Pregressive party--were identified with that movement during the recent campaign because they were under personal obligations to Mr. Roosevelt, which they felt they should discharge.

"Now that they have discharged those obligations," continued Colonel Gregor, "they feel they are not duty bound to again pay the same personal debt. These men have always been Republicans. In my opinion they will welcome the reorganization of their party under accredited Republican leadership. Therefore, I say that the revitalizing of the party is going to proceed without being seriously hamperer by the third party movement: and this means that four years from now the Republicans, believing in their party and its principles, are going to again present a united front to their political opponents." Talked With Roosevelt Supporters. Colonel MacGregor bases the opinion expressed by him on personal conversations he has recently held with some of the persons prominently identified as Roosevelt supporters during the past campagn.

In brief, his opinion, based on the conversations noted, is that there are a large number of people who followed Mr. Roosevelt into the third party because it was Roosevelt leading, not because they were ready to leave for all time the party they hitherto been identified with. Colonel MacGregor expects that call will issue Republican National headquarters for a meeting of National Committeemen and men prominently identified with party affairs to be held some time in January. He expects to attend this meeting: and believes that at this time some definite program for the reorganization of the party will be decided on. Made Texas Recommendations.

Discussing Texas affairs as far as Republican appointments are concerned. Colonel MacGregor, who returned from Washington Wednesday evening, declared that he had made some 90 recommendations for appointments to Federal office in this State to the President. A number of named in these recommendations already, hold Federal office in Texas, their old terms expiring, however. by the first of the year. Others in the number are to be new appointees.

The announcement as to who they are will come from Washington when their names are sent to the Senate for ratification by the Naton's chief executive. "Did you recommend any changes in this district?" asked. did not recommend any changes in the Houston was the reply. Colonel MacGregor will possibly make other recommendations concerning reappointments and new appointments before President Taft's term expires. Asked concerning the status of the Republican party in Texas, now, he declared that the party was in excellent shape, and that he believed individual Republicans in Texas were very well satisfied with its present status, Taft appears in the best of spirits and is not in the least downcast by his defeat at the polls, or over the thing, the knowledge of the fact future of the Republican party.

will be relieved from the weighty cares of office next March is welcome to him, personally." concluded Colonel MacGregor. Local Courts Another damage suit growing cut of the collapse. of a wooden awning at the corner of Fannin Street and Preston Avenue during a circus parade in October was filed in the District Court Thursday. The suit was filed by Ben Campbell against Charles Miller and is based on injuries alleged to have been received by Mrs. Mary Campbell, wife of the plaintiff.

Damages in the sum of $25,000 are asked. The petitioner, sets out that his wife was standing on the sidewalk underneath the awning which, he alleges, gave way and fell violently and without warning, striking his wife and knocking her to the ground. The injuries she sustained, he claims, were of a serious nature in themselves and in addition, he alleges that her nervous system has been permanently shattered as a result of the accident, rendering her unfit for duties that she had previously been accustomed to perform and necessitating future incurrence of medcial expenses.
