Leo Margaret Montgomery; Inspector, Leona Barham; instructor, George The Capital Journal critic said of Miss Byrd's last concert given in Salem In 1928: "Never has an artist been received with more enthusiasm, more plaudits and more interest by a Salem audience than was given Miss Winifred Byrd, Salem's own pianist, when she played last night In Bligh'a Capitol theater. It was her first concert appearance here since the fall of 1923 and the only concert which she will give in the west this season. "At the close of her formal program the audience refused to leave the theater and loudly demanded more encores. Much has been written and said by eastern critics of the tremendous force of the Salem girl who has become one of the best known of the American pianists; they speak of her impetuosity, her enthusiasm and her fire. Her 'wrists of steel' are mentioned repeatedly.

One understood after hearing her play Beethoven's Turkish March, Liszt's Second Hungarian Rhapsody and her encore number, 'Blue Danube in last night's concert. Few pianists have such dynamic force and seldom is It found in a woman." Stay ton Mr. and Mrs. B. A.
