Dillon, of the firm of Hull Dillon, was noticed to be in a sort of elegant line of goods. W. F. Beek worth, representing the Sownlo Metal company, came in last when found. Bailey called Joseph Romac, a fellow miner, and some others to his assistance and together they removed him from under the fallen rock and took him to the top.

The cause of the cave-in was failure on the part of Silva to have the coal he had dug removed and props put in to hold the roof of the entry in its place. Miners can not be too careful in their work and should always see that a sufficient number of props are used to insure safety from accidents of this kind. Even when there is apparently no danger mishaps frequently occur, particularly in mines. Coroner Dr. G.

E. Cole was summoned and an inquest held last evening. The following is the verdict of the jury: "That he came by his death in No. 1 shaft, in the "th south entry on the east side about 10 o'clock Monday, January 22, by a fall of slate at face of said 7th south entry." The report reached the city to- day that a tramp was found about nine miles nrth of the city this morning frozen to death. He was layiog by a hedge fence with two empty whisky tlasks by his side.
