RUDY PHILLIPS: A NAME TO REMEMBER Not many high school athletes high jump 5 feet 6 and broad jump 20 feet 10 inches. During the noon hour one day last week I watched Rudy Phillips, a 14-year-old Decatur eighth grader at Roosevelt Junior High, do both." What's more, Rudy the previous day broad jumped 21 feet 3 and 21-9 and high jumped 5-10.

Rudy, from a family of 9 (he has 5 younger brothers), will enter. MacArthur in September. Jerry Curtis, the track coach, undoubtedly will welcome him with open arms. The youngster has explosive legpower which catapults him from the broad jump takeoff. Grade school bovs do not en- gige in intraschool competition here so there is no way of fore seeing how Rudy will react when he hits man-to-man prep rivalry.

I lis lather n. D. Fhillips, once standout- trackman at Jonns Hill, thinks Rudy will be even better with competition.
