55TH REGIMENT, PENNSYLVANIA SEPT. 19, 1861. The Fifth-fifth Kegiment was recruited under authority granted by Governor Curtin, to Colonel Richard White, of Indiana, aad Co. of this regiment was composed entirely of men from this county. On the 16th of May, 18(54, as the 55th Regiment was advancing toward Richmond, they were met by Gen.

Beauregard, who fell upon the left flank of the division with a sudden and overpowering force. The Fifty-fifth occupied a position near the extreme left, and felt the full force of the enemy's blows, but gallantly held its ground, until outflanked and nearly surrounded, it was in danger of being captured Colonel "White, then selected three companies of bis regiment and charged full upou the bead of the enemy's column, but the line could not be broken, and he was forced to yield. Col. White was taken prisoner, at this engagement. At Dhapin's Farm, Co.

F. done excellent sevice, quite a number being kiljpd, among whom was Lieutenant Blaney Adair. Co. F. passed through some of the hardest fought battles of the late war, and their record, as published, shows how dear to their hearts was the lag of their ccuntry, and how willing ihey were to sacrifice their lives in her defence.
