Oakland Armour Star BACON Fresh, Whole FRYERS Ih With I Order! PRIME RIB PORK LIVER By Hank Grant TV Time Staff Writer Hollywood, Sept. 24 As the harried lawyer-husband of Glynis Johns in CBS-TV's new "Glynis" series, which debuts Wednesday, Keith Andes is enjoying a light comedy role in contrast to his somber "This Man Dawson" series, still seen in syndication. Though he prefers comedy to serious drama, few people know Keith's first love is singing, the possessor of a fine baritone voice, who has yet to be given a chance to sing in films.

It's ironic that Keith was snapped up for movies when his road tour as star of "Kiss Me Kate" hit Los Angeles. Talent scouts were prepared for him because he previously starred on Broadway in a revival of "The Chocolate Soldier" and the rave notices for his singing and comedy talents in both efforts hadn't escaped the attention of Hollywood filni producers. Yet he has never sung on film. Does this frustrate him? "I was annoyed at first," he admitted the other day on the Glynis set. "But then I realized that get ting your foot in the door first was all that really mattered.

An inequitable situation exists in Hol lywood and probably always will. People with real talent go unheed ed while pushers with no talent get the breaks. The reason, of course, is that the supply of talent and no-talent far exceeds the de mand and producers are only human after all out of sight, out of mind, as the cliche goes. Waited for Chance "Well, I realized I at least wasn't out of sight and I could afford to be patient. I've learned there's nothing like rolling with! the punch, taking half a loaf is better than none.

All actors have egos, in fact all humans do. The important thing is to have a healthy ego, not a nerutoc ego the latter nurtured bv discontent. "The best wav to have other neoDle working for you is to be i i non-controversial and optimistic. If people like you, they surprise you bv doing for you the very things you gave up hope of doing for yourself. "Do you know how I got this series? Not bv chafing and; scratching or even scheming with my agent to grab it.

It was offer ed to me on a silver platter. Two years ago, I returned to Broadway to star opposite Lucille Ball in! Lucille and I became; friends and parted as friends when her show closed but she evidently hadn't forgotten me. Keith Andes 'When Desilu Studios was seek ing a co-star tor Glynis Johns, Lucy recommended me to execu tive producer Jess Oppenheimer! and I was in. "And working the series with Glynis is a joy. It was she, not who insisted my name in the series should be my own, Keith, just as hers is her own.

'It's only fair," Glynis said. I'm not ashamed to say that trying to be a nice guy has its advantages, especially ifj you sincerely want to get along with people. "You know? I have a feeling I'll be allowed to sing in a film soon. I'm not fighting for the privilege, brooding about it, or nagging my agent about it. I have the feeling someone maybe you! will do it for me." If writing about it helps, maybe I alreadv have! NEW FARMER CITY MAIL CARRIER NAMED Farmer City, Sept.
