Percy, R-DL, says he thinks he will have to win at least 51 per cent of the delegates from his home state of Illinois to have a chance for the 1976 Republican presidential nomination.

In terms of popular vote he would have to win an absolute majority in a two-way race or lead a field of several candidates, Percy said in a taped television interview to be shown in Illinois. "I'd want to be judged by my fellow citizens in the state of Illinois before I'm judged, if it's at all possible, by the citizens of other states," Percy said. Percy said this would mean passing up the nation's first presidential primary, in New Hampshire, although supporters there have told him "my potential candidacy would do very well there." The Illinois primary now takes place in March, two weeks after New Hampshire's and one week after Florida's. But there is a move in the Illinois legislature to move it back. BOOKER Elmer R. Booker, 75, of rural Greenville died 2:45 a.m. Friday in Utlaut Memorial Hospital, Greenville. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the First Presbyterian Church, Greenville.
