The Television Critics Association summer press tour is over, but there are still a few tidbits and quips to share: GIRL CRAZY: A live-action show called "Young Hercules," from the creators of the syndicated "Hercules" franchise, debuts this fall on Fox during its kids programming block. Many of the other Fox Kids shows are attempting to win back girl viewers, and Fox Kids Network general manager Maureen Smith assured TV critics that girls will be interested in "Hercules, too. "There is a young female cadet in the academy where Hercules is being trained," Smith said. "And there are also a lot of Amazons." Her last day will be Monday.

"As of yet, my plans are indefinite. I have a couple of irons in the fire," she said yesterday. Hyland, who is married and the mother of a daughter who will turn 2 in the fall, said, "Right now, I'm going to just spend some time with my family." Hyland, who has worked weekends for the past 13 years, said, "I just decided it was really time for a change, for something new. I have a child now and it makes things a little bit different. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the people at Channel 4.

They are terrific people and I will miss them terribly. I mean that." News director Tom Petner said that weekend co-anchor Baron James will work the desk alone after Hyland's departure. No replacement for her has yet been named.
