In addition to the Dapper Dan, he was named in 1996 to the Ohio Valley General Hospital board of directors, and he maintained his football officiating that started in St.

Louis with high schools and Division III colleges there. Since his diagnosis in August 1997, Mr. Lutz spent much of the past year with his family and friends in between battling his illness. He played for the past 10 years in the midAugust golf outing for Fabiano's McKees Rocks establishment, Michael's Lounge. This year, he planned to merely ride in a cart.

"I even had it moved up Aug. knowing he was coming back and hoping," Fabiano said. "I'll probably be changing the name to the Frank Lutz Golf Outing." In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Anthony, and a daughter, Marissa, both at home; his mother, Deetza Lutz of McKees Rocks; and two sisters, Cynthia Lutz and Diane Chaplin, both of Florence, Italy. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and tomorrow at the Anthony M.

Andy was a graduate of Mt. Lebanon High School in 1982 and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Duke University in 1986. He was awarded a Ph.D. in molecular biology from the University of Oregon in 1994 under a Howard Hughes Foundation Scholarship. He was establishing himself as a consulting scientist in the Biotech industry.

ALFRED FROMM Early leader of California wine industry of the California wine industry, died at his home in San Francisco on Thursday. He was 93. Mr. Fromm was born in Kitzingen, Bavaria, the fourth generation of a family of wine makers at Bingen on the Rhine.

Fleeing from the Nazis, in 1936 he came to the United States, where he founded Fpomm Sichel Inc. with Franz Sichel, another expatriate scion of an old German wine-making clan. Fromm Sichel distributed the Christian Brothers wine and brandy worldwide and in the 1950s took over the Paul Masson vineyards, a pioneering California wine maker in Saratoga. Though he built his fortune on jug wines such as California chablis, and Paul Masson's slightly sweet champagne, Mr. Fromm was among the first to predict that California wines would come to rival those of France in both quantity and quality.
