[(jjljft artKAN'MBBINS CO., jQAM, JOWA Our Businessmen At Home- HALL-STRAHORN HARDWARE BIG THINGS GOING ON NOW FOR ALGONA SHOPPERS There s pjlenly of activity (these days at Hall-Strahorn Hardware where double-barreled plans for some of Algona's best shopping are now nearing completion. The first part of owner Ken Strahorn's big fall program was completed this week with the opening in the store of a big, bright new toy display especially aimed at providing a gigantic selection of toys for early Christmas lay-aways. "You've got to see the toys ihis*year to believe them," says Tressa Sirahorn. Ken's wife and co-worker in the store. There's a fire engine with automatically flashing lights and self extending ladders — everything but the fire. It's Halji Strahorn's biggest and best toy year ever and now underway for everyone to cpm# and see. Just as spectacular as the new toy stock, but in a different fashion, will be the second part of the fall program at Hall-Strahorn. Sirahorn reveals next week's issue of the Upper Des Moines will have news of the biggest over-all values in fall buying ever held at Hall-Strahorn. Values in both price and quality are features customers have become used to at Hall-Strahorn since the store was established by Ken and Tressa in 1950. They feature top lines like RCA Whirlpool and Speed Queen automatic washers and dryers. Duo Therm and Super- flame oil heaters. Hot Point and RCA Whirlpool ranges and refrigerators and a complete stock of gifts and hardware. It's a store that fills the gap in everyone's shopping needs. The secret of this service to customers is that Ken Sirahorn is affiliated with several hundred dealers in fourteen states. They merge their buying to offer real values and Ken Sirahorn concludes that he intends to keep these values coming in the future. Algona Implement Co. The "mystery farm photo", arid the "business place photo" will help business folks in town and their neighbors in the country to become better acquainted. In both cases, we will be able to appreciate more the efforts, being made by both town and country residents to make progress in their work while building a better community. ^IlllUUIIIIIIIIIIIIIIlllllllllllUllllllll^ Beecher Lane Appliances "Where The FAMOUS NAMES Greet You" In TELEVISION Admiral . They own the farm which is 120 acres, and also farm another 80 at German Valley, three miles away. They have been on this farm for 15 years, but they expect to move March 1 to the 80- acre place where there is also a house. Their present farm will be operated by Mr and Mrs Darwin Bowers of Titonka. Mrs Bowers is a Siehlmann daughter. Mr and Mrs Siehlmann, who were married in 1933, have two other children, twins. They are Bertha, now Mrs Dale Helmers of Titonka, and Bert of Forest City. Mrs Bowers is the former Ronna Siehlmann. • In general the Siehlmanns raise beef, and have about 20 head of Herefords at present, and also 400 chickens. They have no hogs this year. Their place has 60 acres in corn. 20 in beans, 20 in oats and 20 in pasture, and the 80-acre farm has about the same ratio. Their farm home is one of the oldest in German twp. Part of the present house is from the original farm which was purchased for $3 an acre from the Rock Island, when originally homesteaded. The farm was purchased from Clarence Seefeld. Mr Siehlmann's grandfather. Bernard Amel- berg, was one of the oldest settlers of the area. He came to Algona by foot, then settled near the present Siehlmann farm.
