Smith, left, and Glen Ranev, center, who spent, almost 90 years between I hem working for Uncle Sam, were presented with recognition certificates and letters from Postmaster General Arthur E. Summerfield by Postmaster Wade Sullivan here recently. The certificates were honorary recognition for devotion to duty in the course of an honorable career in the United States Postal Service. They were tendered to Smith and Raney upon the occasion ot then- retirement from active duty and are an" official commendation from the postmaster general. Mr Smith retired Dec. 24, 1956. more than 48 years after he first began as a <ftrk Aug. 1, 1908, and Mr Raney retired August 1. 1957, after more than 40 years service here. (UDM Flashfoto- hngravlng) RingsledHas 6 New Faculty; Open Sept. 2 Ringsled — Ringsted Schools ll start their 1957-58 season al 4:40 on Monday morning, Sept. 2. Students will be dismissed at 11 o'clock and the regular session will start on Tuesday. The remodeling of the Grade tchool building will be completed in time for school. The quonset hut will again be utilized for a tlass room. Class rooms will be et a premium next year and it has been suggested that the music will be moved out on the stage aad other classes converting it to their use. Teachers that will be new on the staff are Ray T. Christensen who will teach math and science. He is married and they have one youngster. He has been teaching the last two years at Lester, Iowa. Loring Snook will have charge of Drivers Training and social studies. He is a graduate of Iowa State Teachers College. First grade teacher, Mrs Jean Snook is a graduate of State Teacher's College and has been teaching at Dike, Iowa, for the last three years. Richard Parnell will be the principaj of the grade school and will teach the 6th grade. He has been teaching for several years at Seneca school, Carole Thompson of Algona \vill teach the 2nd and 3rd grade combination room and she is a graduate of State Teachers College. Jo Ann Naig of Cylinder is a graduate of Emmetsburg Junior College. Lyle Sprout of Cylinder will teach commercial subjects in the high school and he. is a graduate of Morningside College at Sioux City. Resigns From Council Oscar Andreasen resigned from the Ringsted Town Council effective August 24th. He expects to move to the suburbs of San Francisco about the first of September. Mr and Mrs Oscar .Andreasen, daughter and son-in- law are both doctors in California. 1st Lt. James Andreasen, son of Mr and Mrs John Andreasen. reported for duty in the reserves at the Sioux City Airbase Monday. The regular monthly meeting of. the P.W.O. of the First Presbyterian Church of Ringsted was held Thursday afternoon, Aug. 15, and the annual election of officers for the coming year completed. To lead the women of the Presbyterian church in their program of service, devotions and mission work Officers Mrs Herman Fritz, as President; Mrs Ivan Watts, vice-president; Mrs Mildred Meyer, secretary; Mrs Bessie Miller, treasurer and Mrs Randall Miller on the nomination committee. Mi's Edna Kyhl gave a report on her trip to Lake Forest, JU. to help further the work of the P.W.O. A public meeting was held in the city library last Friday evening, Aug. 16, with a swimming pool contractor from Oklahoma City, Okla. A number of the local citizens were present to hear about the cost and general setup of pools in Iowa. The contractor stated that there would be about 200 pools built in Iowa in 1958. Mrs Mary Reiling of Carroll spent last week in the home of her son Rich Reiling. Mr and Mrs Harold Grandgenett and daughter, Cynthia Ann, were Friday evening guests in the Larry Grandgenett hopie. Barbara Kunkle, daughter of Mr and Mrs George Ku'nkle, spent several days last week in the home of her great uncle and aunt, the Leo Hanigs. Sunday guests in the Leo Hanig home were Mrs Hanig's parents, Mr and Mrs Isadora Meyer of St. Benedict and their houseguests, Mr and Mrs Bill Meyer of St. Cloud, Minn, Mrs Ted Worsley, the former Ida Young, and her daughter Lynn of El Monte, Calif, came by plane Friday, called by the serious illness of her mother, Mrs Oliver Young who suffered a stroke Thursday, Aug. 22. Sunday guests in the Gayle M. Studer home for a picnic dinner were Mr and Mrs Bud Hauptman and family of Bancroft and Mr and Mrs Larry Lang and family of Mason City. • The women are sisters. Mr and Mrs Mike Flom attended the State Fair Monday. Their daughter, Sandra, a student nurse at the Methodist hospital, Des Moines, joined them for the day. Mrs Jack Van Cleve and son of Des Moines and Mrs Bill Laubenthal and children of Algona spent the weekend at the parental Carl Johnson home. .Jack Worsley left Aug. 25 for his home in El Monte, Cal. following 6 weeks here with his grandparents, Mr and Mrs Oliver Young. Mr and Mrs Charles Nygaard and family attended State Fair, Aug. 24. the Iowa Mr and Mrs Lael Root, Carol, Ronnie and Ellen spent the weekend in Chicago sightseeing. The annual chicken supper will be served by the Methodist women Thursday, Sept. 19. Merle Giddings, employed by the Bell Telephone Company, has been transferred from Sioux City to Omaha, Neb. Mrs Veva Lease had as Sunday guests, Mr and Mrs Lowell Erdman of Decorah, Carrell Erdman of Spencer, Mr and Mrs Wayne Clegg, Paula and Van of Eaton Rapids, Mich, Diane Robinson and Mrs Olive Erdman. Mr and Mrs Richard Mayes and family of El Paso, Texas came Friday for a visit in the parental Ihno Gerdes home. Darlene Green went to the University hospital, Iowa City Saturday for a check-up. Walker Friday, August 23, at Mercy hospital, Mason City. The infant weighed 10 pounds, 5 ounces. The new infant has been named Dean Allen. Richtsmeier and Bobby and Mrs Richtsmeier's sister, Mrs Agatha Gallagher of DCS Moines, visited the Richtsmeier daughter, Sister Alsrtasia at Good Council Convent at Mankato, Minn. Sunday. Janice Richtsmeier who had attended a Good Council camp at Madison Lake, Minn, for 10 days came home with her folks. Lawrence Koppen was brought home Monday from Mercy hospital, Mason City, where he had been a surgical patient several weeks. ST. JOE NEWS Mr and Mrs Leo Thilgos and family returned homo Wednesday from a 2 l fe week trip through southern and western states. Halph Reding and son. Gerald, and Harold Reding and son, John, left Friday for a trip through Nebraska. They returned home Sunday. Mr and Mrs Alvin Klein, Ruth Ann and Norman were in Des Moines Friday till Sunday. Mr and Mrs Cyril Kellner, Jeannctte and Thomas, Mr and Mrs Raymond Kohlhaas and family, Mr and Mrs Ed Bormann and family also were among those attending the Fair.
