Chambers Kellar and his son Kenneth left by auto yesterday for the former's Montana ranch, to be absent for a few days. Kenneth acted as chauffeur. George P. Brown and family of Hot Springs, came up from, that place Thursday and camped at the city park last night. Mr.

Brown is assistant at Hot Springs and is taking a wrfl-earned vacation. They are enjoying Spearflsh canyon today, and expert to go over to Spearflsh for tonight, where their daughter wl enter the normal school this fall. Jack Gillmore, assistant division 'superintendent of thP Burlington Is at the Sister's hospital at Deadwood recovering from an operation to which he submitted yesterday morning. His condition is reported excellent and he will mnkp a rapid and complete recovery. Wright is processor of journalism In the state university. This is the first visit he has made to the Hills. Whtye In the city they visited thi recreation tbuilding and were chaperoned through the mills and surface workings of the mines, greatly enjoying the interesting features of each. Prof. Wright and famKy will go to Sylvan Lake and other portions of the Hills today.

There was a sale of kimonas and some other kind of wearing apparel for women started yesterday morning by the Keep-Baertsch company. The fart that the sale would Start was announced in advertising columns of the Pioneer-Tithes and the crowd that assembled before the doors of the store was opened blocked the sidewalk and overflowed into the streets. Those composing tho crowd were women, and their eagerness to be first was apparent, and their pres ence In such numbers made patent to the casual observer the value of an advertisement Jn the Pioneer-Times. The prices were right, and the demand for th( articles of women's apparel on sajle was so great that it kept every clerk in the establishment and extra help busy dishing them "out, receiving the case and wrapping up the purchases. The old adage: "It pays to advertise," never received a better exemplification.

Miss Claire Gushurst and her brother Edwlard went out to the crossing yesterday morning to spend a short time in the comfortable Gushurst cabin, which is located in one Of the most delightful spots in the canyon. Edward returned to his home in Lead from his work in the Cincinnati as thin as a rail, and his sister, and mother are looking after him, and when he leaves to take up his medical work and studies in one of the great hospitals In Chicago, he is going back looking like the huslcy he was when he played on the Lead High eleven with his brother Fred. He was in a hospital for two wet ks after receiving the Injury and very effort was made to save his life, but medical science proved of no avail.

In addition to his parents he is survived by two sisters and a broth- er. SUPERINTENDENT LOSES LEG IN QUEER ACCIDENT RAPID CITY, July 22 George larquardt, superintendent of the U. S. Gypsum Mifcs at Piedmont, met! with a very serious accident when he stepped through a hole in one of the floors in the founding. His right leg became entangled in the conveyor belt that it took some time before he could be released.

His limb was completny crushed so that It was necessary to have it amputated at the knee. GOLD RING LOST YEARS IS FOUND AROUND ONION YANKTON, July 22 To find a I gold ring, lost for several years, around an onion was the experience of Miss Margaret Kailbusch, of this city. She gathered a bunch of onions grown In her garden, and took some of them over to her neighbor, Mrs. Morehouse. While they were conversing Mrs.

Morehouse noticed' something unusual about one of the onions, and investigation disclosed that it was wearing an 18-caret gold ring.
