State is not just another dismal football team ready to sink into the Dismal Swamp this season WSSU remained undefeated with a 27 13 victory in front of 5332 at Roebuck Stadi um but not before getting tested and per haps even scared a bit by the Vikings The Rams 3 0 spurted to a 24 7 lead early in the third quarter but were outplayed the rest of the second half and then needed a key defensive play in the final minutes to keep this one from getting real interesting It took a freak interception by linebacker James Jenkins after Elizabeth City drove to 3 in the final two minutes before the outcome was settled Coach Pete Richardson admitted that the Rams were banged up physically and down a bit emotionally after a 48 19 victory over North Carolina last week But he stressed that the Vikings caused many of the problems yesterday too real Richardson said made a lot of mistakes But I attribute some of those to Elizabeth City State got to give them credit They were ready to play just proud of the way our guys hung in there at the Elizabeth City State won only two games last season and was picked to finish last in the CIAA Northern Division this year But the Vikings opened with wins over
