29 of injuries sustained in a car accident in Las Vegas, New Packer, a native of Grapeland, Texas, lived in San Bernardino 40 years. She was a homemaker for 50 years. Survivors include her son, Johnny Ray Roberts of Chico; her choking. Both are intended to slow drivers without creating a traffic hazard. A jog occurs when streets don't quite go in a straight line.

Chokers happen when a wide street is narrowed, then widened again. Green belts between housing developments and major thoroughfares. It would require developers lo put a park-like walking, horse or bike trail or greenery in certain areas. New houses along Interstate 10, for instance, would be separated from the freeway by a park-like strip or other green open area. "It's very flexible," Buydos said of the ordinance, which goes into effect Dec.

4. "It's written lo cause developers to be creative in their designs rather than the cracker-boxcookie-cutter typical subdivision design." Calimesa, which is in the Yucaipa Valley but on the Riverside County side, became a city in 1990, just one year alter Temecula incorporated and six years after Moreno Valley. Riverside County adopted a subdivision ordinance in the early 1980s, following the approval and construction of the Rancho California master-planned community. Cities that incorporated shortly thereafter adopted county ordinances and codes until they could develop their own. "This is one of the last steps Calimesa will lake to remove itself from the Riverside County development code," Buydos said.

"It takes time. We did our general plan; that was a two-year By Cindy Yingst The Sun's Yucaipa Bureau CALLMESA This small city doesn't want to be Moreno Valley or Temecula, city officials have decided. On Monday, the City Council gave final approval to an ordinance that ensures that new subdivisions will have a distinctly different and friendlier flavor from their counterparts in other Riverside County cities. "Temecula made the cover of Newsweek for how unpedestrian-friendly their streets are," Planning Director Jerry Buydossaid. The magazine about six months ago featured a cover photo of a child on in-line skates riding down a huge street.

"Their neighborhood streets are 40 feet wide. They're massive. You can't talk to the person across the street because they can't hear you." Calimesa's new subdivision ordinance provides for streets that are only 28 feet wide when there is no through traffic. Other aspects: Pedestrian and bicycle pathways that connect cul-de-sacs, making friends and neighbors who live behind you but on another street easier to reach. Traffic circles like those in Europe and Tijuana.

They slow drivers and eliminate problems found at lour-way slops where no one knows who's supposed to go first. Most likely, these will be in newer areas, such as Oak Valley.
