Wednesday, April 17, 1974 5 1 i NWB invitation to area artists Once again artists living in the Upper Midwest are being invited to submit samples of their work for possible publication in the 1975 Northwestern Bell Appointment Calendar. All mediums are acceptable and selected artists will receive $200 for reproduction rights. Both amateurs and professionals, are invited to participate. All entrants must be residents of -the states Northwestern Bell services: Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North and South Dakota.

Paintings may depict contemporary or historical scenes relating to the five state area served by Northwestern Bell. In addition paintings that reflect the activities, interests and cultural heritage of the people of this area would be desriable. Color slides of the works may be submitted until April 30, 1974. Interested artists may obtain an invitation with complete details by calling the local Northwestern Bell business office or by writing to the Public Relations Department at 125 South Dakota Avenue, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, 57102. Last year, more than 575,000 copies of the calendar were distributed by Northwestern Bell.

The 1975 issue will be the eleventh year the Company has published the Appointment Calendar. Home economist Kappa speaker Charlotte Schuttler, extension home economist from Spearfish gave the program for Kappa Chapter when they held their meeting April 8 at the home of Kathy Boyle, Deadwood. Mrs. Schuttler's program was given on dieting and nutrition. She showed slides and members sampled some of the dishes she had prepared.

In the business meeting plans and reservations were made for Founders Day. The new officers for the coming year are Mary Perrett, president; Carol Sjomeling, vice-president; Marilyn Harrison, recording secretary; Lorene Goodwin, treasurer; Jeanna Thoresen, corresponding secretary and Marilyn Bowman, extension officer. Hailing speaks Beverly Hailing, state representative from Spearfish, spoke to the Twin City Federation of Republican Women at a noon meeting Monday at the Ore House. Mrs. Hailing discussed some of the bills passed at the last session in Pierre and some which may come up at the next session.

Following her talk was a question and answer period. The next meeting of the group will be Monday, May 13 and will be held at the Franklin Hotel. Local beauties receive gift Yummy recipes from great grandma's day are being eyed by four lovelies of the Twin Cities, all entrants in the Miss South Dakota, USA Pageant held in Deadwood over the weekend. Copies of the official Black Hills Area Centennial Cookbook were presented as gifts by die Lead-Deadwood '76 Centennial Inc. at a luncheon held Saturday.

(Cof phtoo) Zenobia Club 4 talks session BH Pioneer The Zenobia Club 4 discussed plans for attending the Supreme Session of the Daughters of the Nile, which will be held in Salt Lake City the second week in June. The group met April 5 in the home of Mrs. James Kennedy with Millie Hogarth as cohostess. A thank-you letter from the administration of the Crippled Children's Hospital, Montreal, was read.

The club has sent tray favors and merchandise to them. Bingo was played after the business session with Mrs. May Eade winning first place, Marian Bedsaul, second and the low went to Doris Kennedy. A' "i hi(J) i Vv Society meet The Black Hills Society of Pioneers will sponsor- two Lead-Deadwood High School students to attend the Black Hills History Conference scheduled for April 26 and 27 at the Holiday Inn of the Northern Hills, Spearfish. The decision was made at the board of directors quarterly meeting held at the Roadrunner Room at Philtown in Sturgis on April 1.

Bob, Lee, Sturgis, talked on the History Conference and Cushman Clark, Deadwood, reported on the special Cheyenne-Deadwood stage coach stamp being planned for the Centennial Celebration and also that the district ranger said plans are being made to work on the Mt. Roosevelt road this summer. The Guthrie Theatre Performance at the Lead Opera House, scheduled for April 25 was talked by Art Davis, Lead. The next meeting will be held the first part of July to make plans for the annual meeting scheduled the last Sunday in July. Silver tea is planned by club There will be a Silver Tea at the Sweatman Art Memorial Building, announced at the meeting of the Literature and Drama Department of the Lead Women's Club.

The group met at the home of Mrs. Kenneth Newell on April 8 with Mrs. Bill Eklund and Mrs. DonMueller cohostesses: The tea will be held May 6 at 2 p.m. to show the improvements made to the building.

Mrs. John Lefler gave the program on History and Oil Industry of Saudi Arabia. i f. j. -V 5 I Commissioned Sue Ann Smith, a Deadwood native, received a direct commission as second lieutenant in the Women's Army Corps Friday, April 5, in ceremonies at Surbeck Center, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.

The oath of office was administered by Lt. Col. James E. Komer, acting professor of military science at Lt. Smith is a 1971 graduate of Black Hills State College, Spearfish.

Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. Earl Smith, Deadwood. Announcing Announcing the engagement and coming wedding are Anita Louise Thomson and Michael William Weiers, both of Lead. Parents of the prospective bride and groom are Mrs.

Helen Thomson and the late Erwin J. Thomson, Deadwood and Mrs. Elaine Watson, Salem, Ken. and William E. Weiers, Lead.

The young couple have chosen June 22 as their wedding date..
