English channel soon after day to supply gasoline to the Allied armies Since early last fall these lines have carried an average of 1000000 gallons a day to the continent When the war in Europe ended gasoline was being pumped through an un broken chain of pipelines all the way from Britain to rankfurt east of the Rhine in Germany It was almost entirely a British am phibious engineering achievement The United States army had con sidered the possibility of laying its own pipeline under the channel but abandoned the plan to avoid dupli cation of the British lines The idea of laying the pipelines came first from Mount batten in 1942 when he was chief of ombined operations PATRY Marcel Pte Montreal Manitoba Regiment NISBET Neville William Pte lin lon Man Eugene Arthur Pte: Mrs Annie Payette
