45 wheat fifteen potatoes are failing fast; no depend- Orarfenbers once can be put on this crop; and although many re- Farsaparilla is of van efficacy in been offered, most oi them have failed fouk lts: liut 1I181 favorable cannot be depended upon bay may be at tons per acre, but we may took with confidence for an improvement in this crop; as the old woin out meadows are being plowed up, and clover and other grasses cultivated in tbeir stead; tobacco is'grown to a small extent, for private worthless at that. 1 would remark, thatflaxseed may be cultivated to a good advantage, as a fallow crbp for wheat, which it does not appear to injure in the least; a great saving may be made in this way, but it will not do to attempt to raise iloliener than once in about seven years on the same ground. I would advise tbe farmer that the 5oil be well pulverized, and not in an exhausted state. The wheat that was sown in the fali of 1847 suffered rnach from the fly; some fields were almost wholly destroyed; and much of that which was harvested the present year was injured by rainy weather, as was also the first mowings of grass, but to what extent I am not able to say. If it be intended to sow wheat early, pethaps the best remedy would be (o have the ground very rich, that as the insect injures the plant, it may continue tiller, and thus acquire strength to resist the winter frosts.

But experience has taught me that wheat may be sown as late as the first of October, pro- x-ided that the soil be in a high state of cultivation, and byjhat means alone defeat, in a great mea.sure, the depredations of the insect. The chief articles of export from this county are wheat, corn, flour, pork, wool, potash, flaxfeed, clover and timothy, mostly purchased at Milan and shipped to Buffalo. The shipments lo Canada are bui small. I do not how many grist and saw mills a in i county. There are two woollen clolh manufactories, one at and one at Greenfield.

a two iron frundiies at Norwalk, (where ste-am engines are made) besides several smaller ones in other places. With regard to the last inquiry in your circular, 1 would say that there i improvement in the agricul- of the county, and which resulis from the necessity of the case for, as I observed before, the farces were recently cleared, and soil in its full strcftgih, i else was necessary a use plow anil hoe; the was plowed to tht depth of or foar inches and yet it produced a a i crop. But when the soil had in some measure become exhausted, labor had to call in assistance of science and art, and the necessity of deep plowing, a i and a proper i of crops, general!) acknowledged, if not a a in pranice. There is a a a improvement in a i a implements, but the i price of some of them prevents i introduction into general use. There has been but little improvement in neat stock, although the present high prices would prompt us anticipate such an event.

Perhaps it may not be i i to state, a the vigilance and enterprise of citizens ol Milan, two plank roads have been extended i this of an aggregate distance of more than miles a a and i when complctccf, will amount to more a fifty miles, affording great advantages to many farmeri for a i their'pro- duce. The county of Huron has been settled mostly i in the last i years, but the a i is not very dense. The price of limbered land a ies from five to twenty dollars per acre, according 10 location. The population does not increase by immigration. 1 cannot at present i you as to the probable a i a i raised in i county, but tnay do so hereafter.

ActUCCLTUHAL SoCIKTY. Pursuant to public notice, i farmers of Huron and Eric counties was held at Court House in a in A i last, (IS'18) and Ihc meeting organized by a i i IMatt Benedict a i a and Charles Jackson Secretary. after the reading law a i to forming of A i a Societies, a i i was a up in accordance therewith, nnd more than i persons subscribed i names to it and paid i fees. It was then resolved that the a to meet at the same place; and, at i a meeting, the Society was by electing Plait Benedict President; Charles Hinc, of Berlin, Vice President; Theodore Baker, of Norwalk, Tieasurer Benjamin Benson, of Townscnd, Secretary and i i on, of Monrocvillc, Benjamin of FaiHiuld, Luke S. Stow, of Milan, Benjamin Summers, of Verm i i nnd Eli M.

a of Florence, Directors. The number of members at present to 1R2; and, after pnying tlie premiums awarded at the fair in October, together i the i i a expenses, balance in the treasury was found lo be $1-0. The prospects of the Society are encouraging; a if successful, will, I i excite to a i all who may behold its proceeding's, or come i i the sphere of its influence. The a i in October was well attended, and the articles exhibited were (considering that it was our first effort,) as good as might be expected; although the competitors for premiums, except on the article of butler, were not as numerous as it was desirous they should have been. The first i on coin to Prudilen Ailing, of Norwalk, for raising 120 bushels per acre, Certified nnd sworn to according to a and to Ira Curtis, of Norwalk, the second i for 11G bushels per acre.

The ground of Mr. A i i had been pastured for many years, and cultivated in the nsual a without a i a i of any manure. Soil, a rich, dark colored loam. Th.it of Mr. reucised about fifteen loads of a a i was kept clean by three dressings i plow, hoe, and the cultivator.

It may be a sonic of the crops arc estimated too low. 1 am satisfied, however, a the estimate is a near a i i to the and which docs not in the JeaM lessen the idea of our ability to raise great crops. It isnot unusual to see fields of corn a will produce sixty or seventy bushels per acre, and wheat a i yield more than i bushels, and so of the other crops included in this estimate. Contrary to the more common usage, his practice was lo apply the i knife very freely to his peach trees. He gave them soils, and stimulated their jrrowih, but at thesame lime kept them down by very close pruning, or, as he termed it, "excessive pruning." This practice, he believed, increased the quantity ofthefruii, preserved the health of the tree, aed prolonged its life. While -whosuffered their trees to grow i pruning, were losing them at five, six, or seven years old, he had them in a good bearing state i years old. His advice wns to prune ihe peach tree freely.

She continued in this state of health i a few weeks ago when the was entirely confined to her bed; and so much reduced that she was unable to walk without assistance stage of her disease I got a bottle of Drs.
