Thompkins had more than 1,100 all-purpose yards thanks to receptions, rushing, and kickoff and punt returns. He was also one of the Citrus Belt League's most feared defensive backs and, in fact, college recruiters liken him to another former Ike DB Pro Bowl safefy Ronnie Lott of the 49ers. Lott was also a jack-of-all-trades on both sides of the line in the early 1970s. Thompkins picked off four passes as a cornerback and returned one a school-record 101 yards for a D. Another sure-handed receiver for the all-county team is San Bernardino tight end Donovan Brooks.

He moved from tackle to tight end this year and had 11 catches for 157 yards and one TD. College recruiters believe he'll make an excellent defensive lineman because of his speed and quickness. Moving to the defense, the Ike-Fohi connection is again evident. Lineman Jeff Karp and linebacker Bryan Sylvester pf Fohi join Ike linebackers Omar Love and Marcus Collins and cornerback Anthony Stewart. Karp played a big role in the Steelers' defense with 67 tackles and 43 assists.

He also had three fumble recoveries and an interception. Etiwanda's big guy on defense was lineman John Latu, who will be back next year. Latu was named the Hacienda League MVP on defense after recording 130 tackles and 18 sacks for the Eagles. He also caused two fumbles and blocked one punt and a field goal. Cajon's Tony Robles excelled on both sides of the line for three years, said Cowboys coach Chuck Pettersen.

"He was by far our best guy on defense," Pettersen said. "He was a pretty good tight end, but he was even better on defense." Robles caught 1 1 passes for 199 yards and one as a tight end. The all-county linebacking corps is led by Sylvester. He captained the Steelers defense as a senior and started all three years for coach Dick Bruich. He collected 414 career tackles, but perhaps his biggest hit came when he forced, St.

Paul's Shawn McKlnney to on the first play of the fourth quarter to eventually turn a 17-6 deficit into a 26-17 victory this year. Collins and Love were also big hitters for Ike. The linebacking corps was arguably the strongest part of the Eagles' defense as all four could either drop back and cover a receiver or converge on a ballcarrier. As Ike defensive coordinator Don Hoak said after the 16-7 victory over Fohi: "We had more guys going to the ball than they could block." Result: Fontana was held to 143 net yards. The all-county team's fourth linebacker is Jesse Ceniceros of Blooming-ton.

Ceniceros finished ninth in the Southern Section in tackles in the regular season and finished with 139 in 12 games. Ceniceros' big play was a fumble return for a TD against South Torrance in this year's first-round playoff game. The defensive secondary features yet another Ike player in Anthony Stewart, Apple Valley's Tony Lemay, San Bernardino's Johnny Thomas and Etiwanda's Ashaundai Smith. Stewart had three interceptions and returned one 61 yards for a TD. He also gained 272 yards and scored three TDs on 69 Clyries as a part-time back.

The team's other cornerback is Apple Valley's Tony Lemay. Not a whole lot of size at 5-9, 165 pounds, but he can dish out the hits. SAL coaches thought so, voting him the league's MVP on defense. Lemay went both ways, playing cornerback and running back. He rushed for 702 yards and six Ds on 125 carries.

As a safety for Etiwanda, Smith had 50 tackles and two interceptions. He also rushed for 857 yards and scored 16 TDs as a halfback in coach Larry Tisdale's wing-T offense. Speaking of rushing yards, SBHS' Thomas rolled up plenty of those. He had 1,101 yards and scored a county-high 15 regular-season TDs. He also had three interceptions for the Cardinals.

The placekicking honors go to Silver Valley's Ty Wilson, the Trojans' first representative on an all-county team. Wilson had six field goals, including a long of 49 yards. Four were 35 yards or longer and he converted on 10-of-ll extra point attempts. Cajon's Bobby Bees gets the nod at punter with his 42-yard average. He also posted more than 3,600 yards in the regular season and 4,000 yards overall in his three years as the Cowboys' starting quarterback, Continued fromC1 on offense as he could pass short or scramble out of the pocket and run for a big gain.

The Sun's running backs are studies tn contrast with Hesperia's speedy junior Norman Clarke and Etiwanda's Will Taukieaho, called the Tongan Truck. Truck is an accurate description as Taukieaho bulldozed his way for more than 1,200 yards and scored 17 TDs in leading the Rancho Cucamonga high school to the CIF Division title. For his efforts, he was named as the Hacienda League's MVP on offense. If you wanted speed and quickness, give the ball to the elusive Clarke. On his third play from scrimmage in his varsity debut as a sophomore against Gladstone, Clarke rambled 71 yards for a TD.

He's a big reason why the Scorpions will be one of the favorites to win their first SAL title in 1991. Davis' wide receivers are Aquinas' Angel Nunez and Eisenhower's Demond Thompkins. Nunez piled up yardage at a record pace this year a county record, that is with 886 yards on 77 catches. Thatranked him third in the state..
