Scheer acting as narrator. Pastor Scheer rendered a vocal solo and a 50c gift exchange was held. New Members The members of St. John's Ladies Aid sponsored a reception for new church members received into the church by confirmation of faith or by transfer of letter. The reception was held Monday evening, opening with a pot luck supper at 6:0. Greetings were extended to all by Pastor Scheer and Eugene Drager, church chairman. A play depicting the real meaning of Christmas was presented by several ladies of the Aid and Pastor Scheer. Group singing was also enjoyed. Mrs Ann Riemers headed the committee in charge of the reception. Guests honored were Mr and Mrs Kneedler and family, Mr Charles Klein, Loreli Lavrenz, Vickie Koestler, Pamela Ruscher, Merwyn Cunningham and Duane Peter. Mr and Mrs Louis Price and sons, Lakota, were Sunday afternoon callers at the R. Willrett home. Evening callers were Mr and Mrs A. R. Willrett, Algona. Mrs Goodwin Bergerud was taken to St. Ann hospital late Tuesday night and Wednesday was taken to the University hospital, Iowa City, for medical care. Ruth Hasse, Iowa City, spent several days the past week with her father, brother and sisters. Mr and Mrs Darwin Koepke became parents of a baby girl at St. Ann hospital Thursday. She is the first daughter in the family. Two Portland Groups Enjoy Xrnas Parties Portland - The Portland Progress club held its annual Chris!, mas party Monday, De". 3, in the home of Mrs Margaret Arndorfer, beginning with a one o'clock luncheon. Mrs Klla Lampe and Mrs Ethel Smith were assistant hostesses. About twenty five members attended, eacli bringing cookies, candy, cake or pie. The hostesses furnished tho hot dish. There was a SOc Christmas gifl exchange. The next meeting will be Thursday, Jan. 17, in the homo of Mrs AHene Wood, with Mrs Mnrp.irr-t Govern assistant hostess. Tho lesson will be given by Arlcne Wood and Virginia Becker. Ha/el Steven and Arlene Marlow will have tho surprise number. Four Corner Social Club held its annual Christmas party and pot luck dinner Dec. 4 at the Portland community hall. Those attending were Mr and Mrs Donald Hings- dorf, Mr and Mrs W. J. Stewart.
