The Portable Steam Engines and Head blocks for Sawmills, of is it diflknlt to perfectly imitate any of vari- gated kinds of marble, for by the introduction of certain mineral paints when thc substance is in the plastic condition every character of marble can be readily produced, as the samples at thc Central House abundantly prove. He also informs us that when thus prepared, this plastic mass is placed into moulds made for thc purpose out of pine planks, such device or archictecural design as may be desired. When it hardens, in a short time, and becomes perfect stone, thenqe it is remoted and secures thc finish or polish in the same manner as the natural marble.

This is certainly a great discovery, and one, which if proven as durable it is represented to be, will doubtless ultimately take the place of the more valuable and costly- foreign marbles, because of its easy and cheap production. The agent who is here representing this invention certainly manifests the utmost fairness in his proposition to the citizens of Hamilton for the organization of a company, for he sets forth no less than seven different and specific guarantees regarding the goods, and only asks payment of the subscription after a thorough investigation having been made by a committee of the subscribers' own choosing, and a report thereof. As curiosities, the specimens will repay a call at the Central House. PKOBATI: II. Cunningham appointed executor of the last will of Thomas Coyne, late of Middle-town, dcceas- ed.

Who will not be there on the 35th of June to help and cheer the ladies in their labor of love? --i A Suggestion To Our Citv Counci). Editor examiner.

The new directory of thc city of Hamilton informs us that the population is near seventeen thousand. As this a rapid increase in population we take the liberty of suggesting a very important matter to a large citjr. We find by referring to the tabulated list of streets that we have two of each of the following named streets, Front, Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Walnut and Water. We would suggest to thc Council that there is danger of thc growth being so rapid hat we cannot find names. It is a source ot great annoyance, not only to strangers, but to residents, to have duplicate names of streets with tlic i iver for a dividing line.

If be they cannot lie changed, then better take up the old distinction of Hamilton and Rof-svillc. Thc names of thc should be and permanently painted upon the houses at the comrr of thc slrccU, or what wouJd he belter, upon the lamps. Thc las.1 would be particularly beneficial after the contract expires with thc present gas company and we succeed in making arrang menls for a good illuminating gas with other party. Another excellent idea would be to have all thc houses on thc respective streets numbered, and make it im- pcranne that thc number be plainly Marthal neglected to ferret out the cause of disobedience to the ordinances, reported that "in the judgment of the committee the complaints are not without remedy; that it is the duty of those who complain of the violation of laws to swear out warrants against the alleged offenders; that it is- thc duty of the Marshal to promptly serve such warrants and also arrest on view such persons as he may see violating such law, and detain them until a legal warrant can be obtained, either on his own affidavit or upon the affidavit of any one who may complain of the violation of the law. Your committee further report that in their opinion thc complaints arc not of so serious a character as to call for any action of thc Council.

The report was received. Mr. Sohn presented a communication from Amcricus Symmes, ot" Louisville, containing a drawing of a monument he proposes erecting in thc Fourth Ward Park, to the memory of his father, John Cleves Symmes. It is an obelisk of Scotch granite 37 feet in height, surmounted by a globe five feet in diameter, hollowed at the poles to represent thc projector Symmes'theory of "concentric circles and polar voids." The base of thc shaft will be 9 feet square, and of American granite. Some time ago the return of personal property ot the Gas Company for taxation was, handed in and it then returnedbut ten thousand ol taxable property. Auditor Peck returned the blank with the request that it be made out in conformity to the law, and be increased a little, which was done by Mr. Tweed, President of the Company, arid the $10.000 raised to 27,000. The Board of Equalization cited one John Howell, agent of June Howell, a farmer ana money loaner, living near College Corner, to appear before them, and yesterday added to the hundred dollars he had returned. 14,800 dollars, making instead of one hundred dollars upon which to pay tax the sum of fourteen thousand hundred dollars.
