The Item went on to say that a change in the numbering of the phones had caused considerable confusion. However, the metallic circuits seemed to be •way ahead of the old iron wire for talking purposes and as soon as the •new numbers became familiar it was thought that the great improvement in the service would be more noticeable. The expense accounts of the various Kossuth county candidates were grad- usually being filed with the auditor. At the time the Item was written John Vinson's outlay reached the highest figure, footing up $326, nearly two- thirds of which was for auto and livery hire. O. A. Brunson's account stood second with only $119.50 expended and $50 of that was estimated cost of auto maintenance during its use for campaign purposes. The following •were some of the lesser expense lists that had been filed: O. J. Stephenson, $39.40; H. J. McChesney, $72.60; Sid J. Backus, $25; William deary, $15.90. I. M.'Pinnell, who was chairman of the democratic committee, reported $62.50 collected and',disbursed $56 of that amount going to the state committee.
