There was an abundance of cookies donated for refreshments. Also, we are beginning to see the support of the local businesses in donated door prizes. It is ladies night and the dinner will be served by the Congregate Meal people. The speaker will be Marion Lucas, Secretary the Iowa State Fair and this will be an excellent meeting. Also, the Lions will plan to have their new swing ride on display, weather permitting. The Clearfield Public Library will be open for a walk through since their recent refurbishing.

The Lions have two new members, Bill Livingston and Keith Bennett. Plan to come as it will be an interesting meeting. fantastic cook, Donna Gray. The jo in effort of the community is very much appreciated by everyone. do have a couple of ladies who do a lot in helping with the refreshments and the drawing.

They arc Vi ahl and Arlene Hansell. Arlene is also in charge of the donated funds which are used for the building rent and any other needs we have now or in the future. Being responsible to do that which we feel is our part takes a lot of courage. It takes courage to sing and play in front others. It takes time to cook the goodies.

It takes time from our schedule to come and listen. We do thank you for being a part of the Clearfield Jam. Keep on singing! Cindy Goodale, Darin Ray Goins set wedding date The families of Cindy Jo Goodale and Darin Ray Goins would like to announce their engagement and approaching marriage. Tne bride-elect is the daughter of Jon and Kathy Goodale of Diagonal. She is a 1994 graduate of Diagonal High School, received her Associate of Arts degree from western Community College in Creston in 1996 and in December 1998, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and Learning Disabilities from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville.

She has currently been assuming duties in area schools as a substitute teacher while seeking a full-time position. Darin is the son Kevin and Cathy Kilgore of Diagonal, the late Ruth Tridle Kilgore of the Diagonal Community, and Donald Goins and the late June England Goins from Casar, North Carolina. Darin graduated from Diagonal High School in 1994, Sou thw este rn om un ity College in 1996, and attended Northwest Missouri State University in 1996 and 1997. is currently employed at Wal-Mart in Creston while continuing his education through Buena Vista University. The couple will be married on June 12 at the United Church' Diagonal at 7 p.m.

Clearfield Alumni Banquet slated Plans are being made for the Clearfield Alumni Banquet. It will be held on Saturday, May 29 at the Clearfield School gym. Tickets can be purchased at the Town and Country Cafe or ordered at 515-336-2222. ee wi Sunday-Starting the week with a nice day, kind of windy, but sunny. Walkie and Joan were in for dinner again today.

glad they were able to be here, good to see them with the after church gang. Tuesday-Bill Clayton was telling at coffee this morning that his brother, Bev is having tests run and may have to have a lung removed. He and Margaret live at Bella Vista, Arkansas now. We lived neighbors to them many years. Keep us posted, Bill.

The town was packed again this evening, Bill and Loren keep packing them in for the music jam They said they had 17 or so musicians and 90 some were there for the show. I you been to one the sessions yet, you better go and see what missing. Wednesday-Carol Lee Nickie, Joyce and Betty met for lunch today. They sure have a good time when they get together. Thursday-Get your winter coats out again today, cold, 30 degrees, windy and snowing.

It melts when it hits the ground, but snowed about all day. It stop Alice Jenkins from celebrating her 92nd birthday. Her daughter brought her in for dinner today and ner nephew, Art Garrett joined them. She and her husband used to come in often before he passed away, good to see her again. Harlan funeral was today.

It was held at the Lenox Legion Building. Slim Cordell and his wife were in for lunch and they had been to it, said the crowd filled the building and there was just standing room. The weather today really has everyone complaining.Something that Slim and Bev said that was read at the funeral made me think we do too much com plaining. Harlan said that "When I wake up in the morning and see the ceiling, I know going to be a good day!" I said, "Right up there it says, put your carts in here." She says why they hire all those old people, to get all the carts!" Rules are rules, Mom! Saturday-We were closed to go to our nephew, wedding.

It was in Cromwell at the church. I never been in that church before. I an old one and very pretty and well kept. The wedding was a very pretty one, but everyone has a few anxious moments before it starts. The wedding started at 6:00.

They were supposed to be all dressed and ready at 4:00 to take pictures. A ll boat registrations and assigned numbers expire at idnight April 30 in odd-numbered years. ith a few exceptions, all vessels operated on public waters must be registered. Those vessels lud registration requirements include traditional non-power and non sail canoes and kayaks 13 feet or less in length, and inflatable non-power and non-sail craft seven feet or less in length. Registration fees vary from $5 to $28 depending on the type and size the vessel. A $1 writing fee per registration is charged in addition to the registration fee.

Boat owners with questions concerning specific regulations should contact their local conservation officer. Copies the Iowa Boating Regulations brochure, which includes a table of the various boat registration fees, can be obtained at county offices, by writing the Iowa Wallace Sftite Office Building, 900 E. Grand, Des Moines, Iowa 50319-0034, or by calling 515-281-5145 or 515-281- 5918. The Iowa also offers an Iowa Boating Basics om Study Course. The course covers everything from boating safety and operation to equipment and maintenance and it is available to those ages 12 and older.

Some insurance companies will offer rate discounts for boaters who have successfully completed a boating education course. Dale Juergens elected to top SICOG post Dale Juergens, ing Taylor County on the Executive Board of Directors of the Southern Iowa Council of Governments, has been elected as chairperson for the coming year. Juergens was elected during the annual IC Board Directors meetin; held at the Pine Valley Course on March 31. As Chairman of the SICOG, Juergens will assist the organization to promote the concept regional approaches to problem solving, strengthen the ability to help its members, promote the association, define programs, as well as being the chief elected officer the corporation. Juergens has also served as the treasurer and vice chairman the Southern Iow a Council Governments and as a board member the SICOG since its formation 26 years ago.

City clean-up day scheduled The City Council set Thursday, ay 6, 1999 as the day for the town-wide clean up. All garbage must be set out by 10:00 a.m or it will not be picked up. The City will not accept any yard waste, toxic waste, tires or batteries. Furniture and appliances will be accepted. New hours for City Hall The Clearfield City Hall will be open Monday through Thursday morning.

Meth problem is subject of Wednesday meeting Union County Sheriff John Coulter will be the featured speaker at Lenox High School on Wednesday, April 21, when students and adults will be briefed on the a growing use if the illegal drug known as Meth. Sheriff Coulter will offer advice on identifying the drug, identifying behavior that results from the use the drug, and strategies to combat the problem. For the month April they played at the oun Ayr Congregate Meal Site for its 25th anniversary on Friday, April 9 at 11:00. Also they played at the nursing home that afternoon. Tney enjoyed entertaining senior citizens at the Lions Hall at Sheridan, the evening of the 12th. Schedules for the remainder of the month is Lenox Nursing Home the 15th at Clearfield Nursing Home at 2:00 on the 22nd; t. Ayr Nursing Home at 2:00 on the 29th.
